Our trip downtown :o)
Today the weather was SOOO nice so we decided to finally take Keiko for a walk downtown. She was such a perfect little angel. We usually have issues with her trying to 'lunge' at new people because she is SO excited, but as we walked down the street she just kept her focus on the walk ... of course if someone decided they wanted to stop and greet her we just warned them that she likes to jump/lick/chew/give kisses to new people )
We found two pet stores - one was a VERY overpriced 'doggy botique' ... I mean seriously $35 for the same cuz I could get anywhere... ridiculous! The other was a natural pet food store where we finally found some Himalayan Dog Chews - that was SUPER exciting. She did well greeting the dogs in both places and only a teeny little bit of submissive peeing when there got to be a crowd of big dogs around her.
One thing did amaze me... the amount of people who knew she was a Shiba!!! Not once did someone who guessed her breed guess incorrectly. I'd say at least 10 people stopped to say "what a cute Shiba!" We stopped for a pitcher of beer at a local brewery and sat outside watching everyone walk by. Our waiter said he had been researching Shibas and was hoping to find a decent breeder in OR. The best part is when a family of four (husband, wife, boy, girl) came by. The mom came up and said "My daughter is too shy to ask, but she tells me she thinks your dog is a Shiba Inu." (daughter was about 8 years old) So I told that she indeed was a Shiba! The woman and her husband were SO impressed with their daughter because they had never even heard of the breed before - I thought that was pretty neat! )
Anyway, on the way home my whole body started hurting - at first I thought it was from all the walking... but as we got home it got worse... so now I'm on the couch with full body aches an unset stomach and a headache that won't quit pounding... ugh!!
Hearing other people talk about how loving their dogs are when they're sick always makes me say "Yeah... they're lucky... my little devil dog could care less I'm sure." Boy was I wrong!!! She won't leave my side, and was even sleeping on me for a couple hours - something that NEVER happens! Poor James didn't get the steak dinner I was going to cook tonight... instead he got leftover chili and got to make me dinner (chicken broth) - first time for that ;o)
Anyway here's a picture of the puppies on me while I lay miserably on the couch.
Oh yeah... poor Belle doesn't get to go downtown with us because she's a typically barky Dachshund, but we bought her a special treat from the natural pet food store )

If Portland was anything like Seattle today you were blessed with some BEAUTIFUL weather for what sounded like a wonderful trip to the big city!
And I hope you are feeling better today. It definitely stinks to be sick... unless of course you get homemade soup and a Shiba nurse.
Sorry about the aftermath --- Get well, soon, Evan --- at least you have loads of doggie and human attention while you malinger on the couch! A little empathy and sympathy really seems to help the healing process!
While you may have been sick, wasn't it great to know that a shiba nurse does live with you after all?
I'm feeling SO much better today. I think it had something to do with going from hot to cold to hot to cold for two days in a row (we spent all day Sunday outside sans doggies). Thanks for all the well wishes )
Karen - you're more than welcome to come hang in Portland with us! I think it would be tons of fun... and we can have lots of pitchers ;o)
