Tenji is our 2+ year old male red sesame Shikoku. We purchased him from Katja Weber in December of 2006.
Tenji is an intact boy and his behavior is a bit different then what I have been reading about on the forum.
He is territorial and protective of his home and family and will growl and bark is someone approaches but as soon as he knows that it is okay, he will back down and accept their company. He will not let anyone get near my car. He is nice to most people that he meets but not exuberant. He is always wonderful with children. He is fantastic with our four year old granddaughter. He is super affectionate with family and close friends.

Dogs are another issue. I don't take him to dog parks because of past experiences. He likes and plays well with some dogs but really detests retrievers: golden and labrador. Dog parks are full of them. He plays really well with some Rotties, some standard Poodles, some Weimeraners, and some other big dogs. He also plays very well with the feisty Jack Russell across the street. But he is very selective and I am never quite sure how he is going to react. It takes Tenji a bit of time to decide whether he is going to be nice to another dog but once he accepts the dog then he is their bff. Many dog owners are wary of Tenji because he growls when he plays and he plays very hard. I think there must be a huge difference between males and females (except Ahi).

Ahi is such a tomboy. She's big like a boy and she acts like a boy.
