I was at the petstore with Rakka the other day and I met the first person to ever recognize her as a shikoku! She was really excited. I told her about the forum, so hopefully she pops in and says hello!
Heidi - That's cool! I hope she joins in. I have never had someone properly identify Ahi, the closes I think I have heard is Akita or Shiba (when she was a pup)... but I dunno that I would really consider either of those "close".

Brandon - A Dingo? Really? That's really ridiculous.
I'm happy when someone guesses Moto is a baby akita. At least they got the right country of origin. I would say less then 10% of people I meet know he is a shiba. I can't imagine what it will be like when I have my shikoku too.
I am speechless when someone knows what Niko is. Even more when they dont see her and I say I have a shiba inu, "that is the dog with the curled tail and looks like a fox?" Now a shikoku admirer is amazing!
There is a dog near my house that looks almost exactly like a Shikoku, but I asked and the owner said it she was a Shepherd Chow mix, Now being non confrontational i just simply smiled and complemented its good looks, but seeing as how this dog was 20 or so inches high, with reddish wolf colorings and a curled tail, I don't see how it could be a shepherd/chow mix since it is over the age of 2.
Every owner of their dog knows best. How silly of you to make a suggestion!
How many owners of mutts really know what it is. When we got our mutt we asked around so much on opinions, and many people still have their own theories. I see so many "shiba" mixes and it is apparent they are NOT shiba. I did see a shiba mix with a wrinkled forehead like a sharpei on puppyfinder...it was the cutest thing!

How exciting! I look forward on seeing her on the forums (hopefully).
I think it is great when people recognize the breed of dog. It makes me happy!

Really??? Everyone I come across know of Shiba Inu, I think it strange for somebody not to know Shiba. Hmmm...
...but then again, I live in California, so maybe they are just more common here -shrugs-.
From what I have seen Cali has a larger Shiba fan base. Not so much here.
The park this weekend a few people said "So THATS a shiba!"
