Sorry to chime in about this, but I have a different theory (at least for Bella) on the mounting issue. I also do not feel it is a dominant behaviour. However, I have noticed that Bella will only hump a person if she is really excited. The first time she did it was when she was about 8 months old when my neighbor came over to our yard for a chat. She got very excited when he paid attention to her and humped his leg. It kind of freaked me out because I had never seen a female dog do that. At the time, I was under the notion that humping was a sexual behaviour in dogs.
Bella seems to only mount people when she gets really excited playing or chasing. So is it possible that it could it be a term of endearment?
