AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA I love it. I was like "dead octopus??!?!!" but now I get it hahaha. Shibas need a tuff rating of 45 (out of 10) lol.

Yea we had an "Indestructible" Honu (Sea Turtle) but that one bit the dust too... :)

LOL. He looks so proud of his kill. :)

HA! yeah. We tried those tuffies to no avail. Nothing stands up to a determined nihon ken jaw!

They were all pretty upset when I threw him away. I even had to take out the garbage prematurely because they wouldn't quit messing with the can.

Seriously though, they LOVE stuffed animals. Is there, anywhere out there, a toy that you've had that they couldn't destroy in a matter of moments? This one lasted the longest I guess. I've thought about those retrieving bags used to train hunting dogs... sort of squishy like a stuffed animal. If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

How about have a stuffed toy that was made with the intention of being un-stuffed. Wouldn't it be cool to have a stuffed animal that is stuffed with towels or something fun for the dog to pull out, and then just keep re-stuffing it for them to dissect again.

Drs. Foster and Smith have "UnStuffables" which is toys without stuffing...

we got Shao New the "hide a squirrel" (the concept of getting things out then putting it back so she can have at them again).. she seems to love it, or rather loves the bottom of the trunk. The game is rather easy though as the shiba's smaller snout fits super easy insde to get the squirrels.

What i noticed is anything labeled "for power chewers"/ industructable is BS. her original nylabone lasts the longest, power chewer version went right through, and now she's onto her 2nd dinosaur in 3 weeks. I guess it's the pyschology of "wow my dog IS a power chewer, look at him chew through the inferior plastic compared to the original!"

Cute pic btw of dead octo.

    Great for "power chewers"

DEER ANTLERS! Miso still has one from six months ago!

I wish those "unstuffables" would last but in my mind I see them in ribbons in a day or so. I think I'll have to go the deer antler way! Maybe then they will quit sneaking firewood and gnawing on it all over the yard.

Jazz has deer antlers as well. Himalyan Chews are another favorite in our house. I am constantly mending stuffed animals and replacing squeakers.

The unstuffed fox that Bella and Nola got for the Secret Santa has outlasted all other (non-rubber) toys. Except the frog. We have a frog that we got Bella when she was a puppy that has lasted longer than anything. It is a fairly large green fleece frog that has an electronic box that ribbets when squeezed. The frog no longer ribbets, as Bella promptly dropped it in her water bowl the second day we had it... But it still lives and is still stuffed! I think we got it at PetSmart.

yeah, our cheap Petco stuffed Monkey still lives happily too :)

OMG Casey, Tetsu has a favorite noisy frog toy that he's had as a puppy. He still goes nuts for that thing when "talks". I'll have to record it, as that frog says more than 'ribbit'.
  • edited November -1
Oh, definitely take a video of that! :-D I wish I could revive the 'ribbet', it was kind of cute. :)

    Long story short:
Last year my mom experienced a giant upheaval in her life, and lots of things changed for her. She put her house on the market, and moved into an apartment and is living by herself for the first time in her life. She's had the 2 family cats since the kids moved out, and when she got settled into the 3rd floor apartment she realized that the cats, who had spent a lot of time outdoors, were going crazy inside. She asked me if I'd take the younger cat, because he was the one doing most of the marking and puking, and he also needed to be outside the most. So I braced myself for the new family member and started researching and organizing how I'd keep the dogs and cat at peace, and then my mom realized that she would be terribly lonely without the only cat that gave her affection through the period of grief.

Fast forward to yesterday, when I finally let my desire for the should-have-been feline family member get the best of me. As if I weren't enough of a glutten for punishment, I went down to the shelter, full of cats, and adopted... Dum-da-dum...

    Bonsai!!
    image

I picked him from all the other cats because he was young, but not a completely vulnerable 8-week old. He's 4 or 5 months, they think, came in as a stray and (yay, rescue!) is neutered, UTD on shots and microchipped. I also get a discount on the city registration fee when he's eligible, and he came with a big fat Petsmart coupon book. There were 2 adult cats that I actually fell in love with, but I couldn't justify putting an adult cat with my crew, and then watch the cat spend all its time hiding from them. One of the adults was actually adopted while I was there.

Of the kittens, Bonsai (formerly Vann) was the most mellow, almost unaffected by my cuddling and was quietly observant of the things around him without any signs of panicking or fear. He was very playful, but not in that wild-terror kitten way. He'd also been there for over a month and a half, and I felt like he was waiting there for me. And, he's orange (my favorite.)

I expect the complete introduction to the dogs to take about 6 months til he's closer to full grown and can really whack them, and even then they won't ever be left alone together. Although, upon initial introduction, things seem to be pretty smooth. No contact yet, but individual sit-downs on either side of the baby gate with lots of tasty treats seems to put the cat and any of the dogs at ease. Bonsai slept through most of it, he was that relaxed. Gufi did well, but took the longest to calm down, Miki really wants to eat him, and Yogi is doing the best and can even sit/lay-stay at a distance while we sit on the couch with Bonsai. Tonight will be a big towel rub on all the animals and turning that into their bedding and just passing it back and forth.

He is the cuddliest little thing, and after I clipped his nails I can even tolerate the kneeding and shoulder-sitting. Right now he's sleeping under the couch cushions next to me while the dogs are napping in the sun. After a long walk in the heat, I am going to work on some more one-on-ones with tasties. Then, as it's way past-due, I am going to deep clean the house and finish all the laundry and that should remove at least some of the doggy smells in the carpets and fabrics.

Sorry for the long post, sort of seems silly for such a tiny little furball, but I guess I'm just so happy about him that I gotta show him off :)

    He seems really long...

Oh, what a cutie...Congrats to the new addition!!

Yogi and Nermal (formerly Bonsai...) are pals. I could have never hoped that they'd get along so well, but it's awesome! The other pups are still on the fence about whether or not to be so friendly, but so far, it's going great! This also gave me a chance to practice some video editing... sort of fun too!

  • edited November -1
Awww, they really seem to enjoy eachother! That is awesome. Nermal is cute! I love Yogi doing all the flips! The playing in the laundry basket is hysterical!
  • edited November -1
How CUTE!!!! Does Nermal start play sessions too? I LOVE the editing you did! What did you use?
  • edited November -1
Oh my gosh, that was adorable!! Yogi is as agile as a cat :)
  • edited November -1
Great video. I love when dogs and cats play. The dog always gets punched in the head a bunch of times.
  • edited November -1
Katie: Nermal usually does the stalking and tail twitching, and that sort of initiates the play. Then he becomes the pray and it's Shiba-Tabby 500's around the house. I got Cyberlink PowerDirector after trying lots of the free editing stuff that I could barely figure out. This is pretty much idiot-proof but I think it can do lots of advanced stuff as well.

Your three dogs are lovely looking I want to get me a Nikon so I can take nice pictures of Saya and Bella. I love your action shots Miki is very pretty and the faces your shiba make are so cute. =3

I made a video that started out in my head as just a quick little thing about how I've been rollerblading with the dogs a TON lately. It turns out I've got some other cute footage so I just practiced with editing that stuff as well. Here ya go!

*"Rolling Stone" because of rollerblading. I'm not in my most creative mindset of late, that's for certain.
**Watch for Yogi's pee-kick. It makes him so happy when I take him on a solo walk and just let him pee on the same bush over and over and then he kicks up the neighbor's yard. Which is why I don't let him do it often :)

Nermal guilty of the cat in a bag routine.

Thought the juxtaposition was too cute.

That's it for now, nothing too special. Everything else is good... just very, very busy. Those summer months spoiled me and now I'm back full speed into work and life again... sound familiar to anyone else???

Nice video! :) Yogi's pee kick is Shao New's poop kick. I also love the Miki cement dig..
  • Great video. Love the music choice, that's one of my favorite songs. Yogi's pee kick had me rolling!

Great Video! Those crazy shiba's of yours always put a smile on my face!
  • edited November -1
I forgot to warn anyone nuts enough to consider it: it's very hard, and definitely "crazy dog lady" to film your dogs running at high speed on your rollerblades on a public and heavily trafficked bike path. You're definitely taking your life and well-being into your own hands :)
