lol yea, she's gotten better with the ear probes after we learned not to hold her while clipping them on. She freaks out at the restraint part and not so much the probes. It's amazing how herculean they can become when they fight back.
Glad to see that she is still doing well. And I must say... you have been very blessed with such laid back Shibas. If I EVER tried to clip something on either of mine's ears, I would probably die in my sleep afterwards. ;-)
Hi guys! Another Roxy update for ya. Today marks the end of the 5th week since the surgery. Next Friday will be the 6 week mark and we'll go in to have x-rays done and see the improvement. I can't wait!
As for the trooper, she's doing FABULOUS! We did the Alpha-Stim for the first week and she responded so well that we moved onto physical therapy and some stretching. She's using her leg more and more and has even started to jump onto the couch again. We can really tell how much more pain-free she is becoming each day. She isn't even on pain pills unless she has a difficult day. Woohoo for Roxy!
Roxy had her 7 week post-op check-up appointment this morning and her hip looks great! She should be using her leg a bit more but her mommy has been enabling her to get by without really "working" it. I've been given strict instructions to take her on long walks and get her running again. She has this habit of rolling her foot under when walking so we're trying to get her to walk correctly again.
We're putting her second surgery on hold until she is using her right leg to full capacity. This could take anywhere from a few months to a year. With our move coming up, this will give her time to really get used to that hip.
It is such a relief to know that she's recovering well. With dogs, you never really know what they're going through since they are masters at hiding pain. She still has a long road of recovery but at least we know that we're moving forward and not backward!
Thanks Kristin! No word yet - hopefully by next Tuesday or Wednesday, we'll get an e-mail with our assignment. Even then, it isn't set in stone until we actually receive our orders. Which, at this point, could be anywhere from next week to next month! Ugh!
I'm glad to hear things are going well for Roxy. I'm also anxiously awaiting to know your location. While I selfishly want it close, I hope it's a spot that works well for Tim's career path.
Good news! Hopefully the longer walks are helping her use her leg a little more. Can't wait until she is fully recovered and we can watch more crazy Roxy videos.
It's great to read this tread and see her improvements - if you go back and watch the videos you can see she is a lot more comfortable (hips and shyness). She couldn't have a better family to take care of her.
I think putting the other surgery on hold till you are moved and she is 100% is a good idea.
Casey: I will definitely update everyone as soon as get word! I'm getting pretty anxious playing the waiting game
Brandon: The surgeon says we should wait until she is completely comfortable using the leg. She still has some days where she limps and I know she wouldn't be comfortable relying on that leg on its own. So, I'm thinking we'll shoot for September/October time frame. However, if we end up moving to AK, I would hate to have her walking around with a shaved leg during the winter. I'm going to wait until we find out where we're going and we find a surgeon that we trust.
LJ: Hopefully we'll end up back in the South!
Brad: Thanks!! It's amazing to see her coming out of her shell.
Yeah, it's a bit of a disconnect being Filipino and all, but hey...Alaska...it's the last place I.N.S. would look for me, and should they find me, they'd consider living up there punishment enough (I kid...my family had green cards for immigration in the mid-80's).

"All this HD talk is so boooooring!"
Any word on where you are moving yet?
And let us know when you guys get the news. It would be awesome if you and Tim get stationed at Bragg!
