Well at least the surgery part is over and you got it done before it protruded further. I hope the prognosis is good from here on out.
I am surprised the vet didn't call to let you know though.... Would be nice if he did a courtesy call.

Did he say if he was sending a tissue sample out for testing?

I'm so glad to hear that it went well and the lump was successfully removed. =0)

Sending healing vibes for a speedy recovery!

    It's tomorrow today! Yay!

Only a few more hours, ne?

Oh, I know how hard it must be without Miss Rakka. Hey, I don't get to see her at all, lol! I remember dog and house sitting for my friend...I brought Lynx with me but left Mr. Shoushuu at home and I missed him so much. You'll get to hug Rakka very, very, very soon!

I'll be back to check much later on.

So... Noah was supposed to take the car that doesn't have the carseats, but he took the one with the carseats (and my wallet). Gahh! Anyway, I can't pick Rakka up until tomorrow. They do say that she's recovering quite well, so that's good. I feel so bad for her... she has to be stuck in a kennel and away from home.

Silly Noah. Can we tar and feather him?
  • edited November -1
Pretend it's the 1950's throw the kids in the back of the car, roll the windows down all the way and take a drive. Smoking would be encouraged in this situation too.
  • edited November -1
Lol I've never been in a carseat :D

Even in the 50's, the vet still wanted to get paid. Noah had both wallets! The only cash I have in the house is a jar of pennies, lol.

    And seatbelts would be optional:p

Ahh darn it! I miss the freedom riding days. We used to ride freely in the back of my mom's '68 Firebird when I was younger, and now the grand kids have to wait to meet certain requirements since it is rather difficult to get the seats in and out (my sis' kids, not mine).

Wishes for a speedy today and a smooth Rakka homecoming tomorrow!

Also wishing for a speedy tonight and a smooth homecoming for Miss Rakka.

    Has Melvin missed her?
  • edited November -1
Funny you should mention Melvin. He jumped out of his corral and went searching for friends twice! That was quite the ordeal...
  • edited November -1
Sounds like his corral needs a top -grins-.

She's back! Poor girl is in pretty rough shape. She has a drain in her neck that will come out in four days to keep fluid from pooling in the area. Vet says it was a cyst - just a random abnormality in the skin that she was born with, like a birth mark that was prone to swelling. There was just a sac of tissue that kept filling up with blood, which explains why the lump went and came. It would empty, then fill up again. It shouldn't come back now, though.

The surgery took two hours, apparently. The walls of the cysts were really thin and it was right up against the jugular, so... yeah. I'm glad she was already fine and on the mend when I found that out. Yeesh...

Anyway, her neck is draining, and she's not really all that energetic anyway, so she's mostly been on a leash (with her harness) to keep her from going on the carpet. I have a mop on hand for her dripping blood. She's just been sleeping since we got home, anyway. If it were nice out, I'd make her a little place on the porch. That's what she's probably enjoy the most, but it's rainy and cold.

ouch, poor Rakka, Best hopes to a speedy recovery! Much love to Rakka!

    Wow, that's a hefty incision!
I'm glad she's home and on the mend, I hope it's quick and easy.

    Whoa! Poor Rakka!
She will look and feel a lot better soon...no more cyst is the important part. Purple skin and rubber drains are only temporary. That bulge looked so big pre-surgery.

Get well soon Rakka! Tummy rubs from us in Massachusetts to you!

Wow! What a huge cyst, glad it is safely removed and she is home for some good TLC.

WOW... I missed this thread, I'm sorry. Poor Rakka! I'm glad she is home safe and on the road to recovery. Sounds like a rough surgery.

You know, Ahi was born with a cyst on her intestine that was removed when we had her spayed at about 6 months... They are sisters.... I wonder if these things are related???

    Get better quick Rakka!

Poor poor Rakka. I hope she heals quickly. Shikas are tough, so I will bet she will be back to her amazing self quite fast.
  • edited November -1
Oh my goodness! From your first post, I pictured a little cyst. It's a really good thing you had that removed. I hope she has a speedy recovery. Poor Rakka. I feel so bad for her.

Brad, cysts are hereditary in humans.

Poor girl. It must be comforting having her back now though. I'm sure she's very relieved to be at home with Mum and Dad taking care of her. She's certainly a trooper! At least now you're on the road to recovery, and not traveling in the other direction.

    Snuggles from Mylo and Kyla!

p.s. How is the nose-scratching? Did they do the tests while she was under?
  • edited November -1
She's not scratching her nose too badly... which is good because she can't wear the cone anymore or it would irritate the incision. Actually, she scratches her face every time I let her off the leash, so even though her drain hasn't dripped in a while, I'm just leaving her there. If she's leashed, she just sleeps, and if I let her off, she goes rubbing her neck and face on the carpet and scratching herself.

They took the biopsy, and the results should be back the middle of next week. Hopefully, when I take Rakka back to get the drain out, they'll be able to tell me what the scoop is.

Oh yeah, and she's not allowed to get wet for ten days. She normally gets wet almost every single day so this is a change of pace! :-P

Brad - I bet it is genetic. I wonder if any other relatives have them.
  • edited November -1
Ouch, that looks like it hurts. Poor Rakka, but at least she's got the surgery part outta of the way. Now, she's just got to relax and sleep until it heals.

Heidi & Brad - If I can somehow get into contact with Mark, I can ask about Aibo. I don't think I know who the other littermate is. Do either of you? Weren't there 4 pups in that litter?

I'm glad Rakka is home and doing well.

Oh my! I'm so glad it went well and that she's back home recovering!

What about their sire/dam? Did/do they have any cysts? Or any other of the shikoku lines? Rakka's ordeal is pretty scary!
  • edited November -1
Awwwww poor Rakka babe. Hope she recovers well <3 ~
  • edited November -1
You know...not to go off topic, but I find my dog likes to relax in the same position Rakka is in on that 1st pic pre-op (showing the enflamed cyst) where one paw is tucked under. Anyone elses dog likes to rest like this? I look at them and I have to imagine it can't be comfortable...
