Hanging Belly

My 1 1/2 year old Takumi weighs 39 lbs, 18.5'' height (I know he is a big shiba!). I've recently noticed his belly hanging a bit as shown in the pictures below. (It's like women's tummy after giving birth....oops, sorry ladies!! lol.) He does not have a typical shiba waist line. I don't see him overweight, though. I feed him Orijen 6 Fish, 2 times a day, 1 cup each time, and some treats such as carrots, bulysticks. I walk him 3 times a day including one long walk with at least 1 hour duration.
Does he need more excercise or do I need to feed him less?
Give me your advice! Thanks.

He doesn't look any different than my Shiba. xD Maybe a little tiny bit chunky, but I don't think its that huge of an issue. Just don't feed two cups a day. Cut back to 1 1/2. Just a tiny little bit less helps. Toby started getting a little chunky ( I couldn't feel his ribs anymore ) so I did that and he slimmed down a little. Toby used to weigh 40 lbs, then I cut him back and he dropped to 37.5lbs. :)

my min pin looks like that, but he's of the bigger stockier type and he only weighs 12 pounds. The vet said it was a normal weight, maybe its just their body type.

He's as tall as my Akira :) But Akira is very thin although he eats a lot like three cups of Orijen 6 fish a day ! Do you feel his ribs ? Also, I would be careful with carrots although they are a good treat they contain a lot of sugar so I give only one per week.

I would say he is a bit overweight and I would definitely say you are feeding him too much. I fed my 50lb adult pit bull less than 2 cups of Orijen a day. Try scaling back his food some.

I agree with Jessica. He probably needs 1.5 cups of food per day tops.

He looks like he's filling out like most male shibas do around that age. Watch his food intake though in the kibble department, a slightly thin dog is better than one who is creeping in on being overweight

Here's a chart that might help you:

    Thanks for all the advice!!
I will feed him less and make him a better shape.
I did not know about the carrots. I will try not to give him too much. Thanks, AkiraleShiba!
