Sunscreen?

Is there any kind of sunscreen made just for dogs?

Toby has been shedding for well over a month now, and some parts of his stomach are really bare and just skin.

I'd rather be safe then sorry and try to make sure Toby doesn't burn while his hair is still coming in! Some days he just goes outside and lays in the grass for hours, and that worries me a bit ...

I've heard people using regular sunscreen for their chinese cresteds, those thinks shouldn't go out unless they are cover in the stuff

I got this funny mental picture of Toby with a white nose like when people used to put the zinc on their nose. LOL.

White Boxers are prone to sunburn, due to their short coat and pink skin. You don't necessarily need special dog sunscreen - you can use human sunscreen as long as it is non-toxic and does not contain PABA (will sometimes appear as para-aminobenzoic acid or 4-aminobenzoic acid).

You can try mink oil. Does he lay on his back a lot?

I would have to put sunscreen on piglet. I would simply us a health food store brand of sunscreen made for kids (I like Nature's Gate). On humans I prefer a combo of chemical (Octylmethoxycinnamate) and physical (titanium dioxide). Dogs I go for a physical barrier. It works well.

Yeah, Toby lays on his back a lot in the grass. He's a lazy dog. :)
