Oh man, that reminds me when I made a UFP joke to Noah, and he was like, "what's a UFP?" and I just laughed and said, "Oh, nothing, it's just a schlong joke. You know... Nihon Ken Forum?"

the UFP reappears on yet another page.

Heidi can't make three posts without talking about the UFP.

I had to tell my wife about this place so I could explain why there are people from all over the country coming to our picnic in Madison.

Well Brandon, I talk to Jessica Face To Face so YES! :P

It's crazy how some of my forum friends know me better than my regular face to face friends.

That UFP! Someone needs to put a leash on that thing, it keeps escaping into other threads!

"That UFP! Someone needs to put a leash on that thing"

Kristin, that just gives me a really funny image

What I find scary is when family members can go (as they walk past the laptop) "is that Kuma? Wow, he's gotten so big!" - and they aren't members of the forum.

I started off with face-to-face meetings of forum members and then went to the cyberspace meeting.

"I had to tell my wife about this place so I could explain why there are people from all over the country coming to our picnic in Madison."

Had to do the same with the husband, as I'm trekking him 14 hours to meet with a bunch of people and their dogs.. but I think considering who we're meeting, he's equally excited now.

I am a bit late to this, but I think it is so awesome that I joined this forum for advice on how to bring in a second dog into my household, and now... I can not live without you guys!

I mean, I drove 7 hours to meet with a bunch of 'strangers' that I met on the internet... my mom thought I was nuts! But I had such a great time meeting everyone and am really hoping that things work out so that I can head to Mass in September and do it again.

And some of the people I work with actually know who I am talking about when I say "Katsu just lost a tooth" or "Brad and Jen got another dog!" lol.

And when I randomly burst out laughing at one of Heidi's UFP jokes... someone in the lab usually asks if I am laughing at the dog forum people again. :-P

I hope you can make to the September meetup, I'm going into Nola-cuteness withdrawl!

I forgot to mention, I was talking about this forum today at the vet. A couple asked what Katsu was and the vet said very slowly to them "She- Bah - EEE- NEW". So i jumped in about japanese spitz breeds, and this great forum I'm on and how it was started by these "crazy" people who have 58 dogs now. I think we should all get matching nihonken.org tattoos or something.

    I'm thinkin' dog tags...
  • edited November -1
Dog tags is actually a good idea! :)
  • edited November -1
That would be cool...Do you mean army dog tags or dog collar dog tags?

Maybe get something with a picture holder on that says "My dog is a Nihon Ken and proud of it"
  • edited November -1
o0o0o0o0o0o! Dog tag! like for Mylo's collar. I took his old NYC Shiba Rescue tag and use it as a key-chain. I can be so sentimental sometimes. =0)
  • edited November -1
I'll see if I can design/source something nice...I hate to do anything halfarse...
    right, for their collar...
Like their official member badge. something noble and befitting that says Nihon Ken Forum...hmm...getting an idea, here...

Its kindof amazing the things one can have made for you.

Have one for the dogs and one for us.

We should do some stickers too. The same as the t shirts and calenders.

You know it's sad when you have this conversation:

Friend: So Tim's not doing anything right now?
    Me: Nope.
Friend: You guys should go visit [our really good friends that just moved] in Colorado! With all the free time you have!
Me: Yea, we would but we're saving up to drive R&R up to Madison for a Shiba picnic and a trip to Colorado would take up some of those funds.
Friend:...........Didn't you just have a meetup?
Me: Oh, that was just a monthly St. Louis one. This one is practically National with some of the forum people coming...oh, this forum I chat on...with dog people........*sigh* forget it
    Friend: (confused look on face)

My dad was watching me update Katsu's thread. He saw everyone commenting and said "Don't these people do anything else?" No. No we don't.
  • edited November -1
Pam: You guys could drive here (and stop in Colorado on the way), then caravan up to WI with us. ;o)

    ----

Joe: "do anything else?"... like what, what else is there to do that's more important than the Nihonken forum? Work? Yea, right!

LOL Brad - My argument for moving to Colorado (back when we thought it would be an option) was "But if we go to Colorado Springs, the Andersons could stay with us when they visit the specialists! I mean, hotel visits have to add up right?"

I'm mostly a lurker on these forums, but I do check a few times a day. Even at work... so the firm I work at all know now I'm the 'crazy dog lady'.. :S

I occasionally bring it up amongst the dog people I train with or come across...especially when I start going off on a tangent about my Shikoku and other Japanese breeds...

...and then of course my boyfriend knows that once I go onto the forums, it's nearly impossible to tear me away from it, lol. I'm like, "Okay, okay! Let me finish reading this and posting my comments really quick...." 4 hours later..."I'm done!"

That's why you'll see me with a kind of pattern. There will be days or weeks when I have plenty of free time and will constantly be online and on the forums. Then there will be days and weeks when you'll never or rarely see me on the forums. <--- which is because I know once I'm on here, I post like crazy and neglect everything else! Save for my doggies, of course...I might leave to do some training or field trips with them...but then when I come home...it's back on here, lol.

The Nihon Ken Forum Addiction...it's pretty catchy...perhaps we should warn our new members??? -grins-

Yeah there should be a disclaimer Corina! Surgeon general says, Nihonken.org is highly addictive.

That'd be an awesome sticker! I should go get them made, lol.
