GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I want a dog already!!!! Seeing all the shikoku & Kai pics are breaking me heart but making me happy at the same time! Double-edge sword!!!

I want! I want! I want! I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So for all of you with pups give them a hug for me! As those of us left dog-less are losing our minds!!! LMFAO

    You are a good person for waiting for the right time, especially given how hard it is and how much they are waved in your face (on this forum).

    Tho the wait is KILLING ME!!! But...at least I now have a good "timespan" of when it will be. Fortunately, me fiancee has fallen in love with these dogs as much as I have, so we plan, after we've been married for a year or so & have really settled down, we'll begin our search ;) [ so given 1.5 years + 1.5 years to prepare / find a breeder / wait for a pup...we're looking at another three years or so...if life cooperates, God Willing. ;p ]

    But we have both decided before we put a deposit down we want to meet some shika & kai in person just to make sure that these are the breeds we want. Plus I want to meet some forum people...moihahaha

    So...give me a year & a half guys, I'll be knocking on your doors asking to see your pups!!!! :p


    Til then I will stalk & drool & cry & laugh over stories / pictures of your doggies ;)

    ETA: All of those who are waiting on their first dog, whether it be nihon ken or not. If you're a member, or some random person reading this, Please wait until you are ready to bring a dog into your home. It's the most responsible thing to do & in the end it will pay off. I've wanted a dog all my life but have been seriously waiting for a year & a half, other people here have been waiting longer. A dog is a huge commitment that should never be jumped into blindly. & when you feel that pang in your heart because you're still waiting...it's time to go to some dog shows, help out at the local rescue, or just research research research, so wehn that time DOES come you are as ready as you possibly can be. :) ~

    I dont think I'm patient when it comes to anything else tho...LOL But because this involves taking care of another life, something that's completely dependent on me, I feel like I have to be. It would be very irresponsible of me to bring a pup into me life now, & I want whats best for the dog, it's far more important than to fill the emotional void that a puppy brings :)

    Tho it doesn't make the wait any easier :(

    God willing, all this waiting & patience that I'm not accustomed to will pay off in the end :) ~

    Osy, I'm in the exact same position as you. I really want a dog NOW, but I know it's not the right time. Unfortunately, I probably won't be in a good position for another 4-5 years.

    I'm considering offering to exercise Katja's dogs for her. I wonder how that would go over.

    Oh that sounds like an awesome idea Kyla! Wish I could do the same! LOL

    I'm sure Katja wouldn't mind. What dog couldn't use the extra exercise & extra love? :) & remember, Katja brought in one of the forum members that came from over seas to stay & learn from her, I'm sure she wouldn't reject the extra help of a fellow shikoku enthusiast! ~

    I waited about 8-9 years before I got Lynx...

    ...then shortly there after the others followed...

    ...3 years will go by quickly :) . You'll see Miss Osy, you will!

    You are definitely doing the right thing and have our support Sangmort.

    When we decided to adopt Aki, both of us commit to taking turns to take one week off work so we can acclimate her to our house, even though there are other people in our house.

    I'm still waking up at 3:30 am every morning to take her for potty, and 7 am to start her day.

    You are also right that it's a lot of responsibility. It's true it's not a little human in fur coat, but it's still a living being nonetheless.

    It takes above average people to keep a puppy; it takes extraordinary people to raise a good dog, imho.
