One of the segments about fear is interesting- she says that acquird fears are very specific, and some are indelible. That you may desensitize but never erase them, if desensitization is successful, it just puts a lock on that fear but in some animals the lock is easily busted open again.

they had a review of the HBO movie and the guy thought it was really good. I dont have HBO though so I'll have to rely on the rest of you to let me know what you thought. I have read her book Animals Make Us Human, which was very good.

This is super interesting. I knew the movie was coming up (no TV here though) because a few of my friends have autistic children and were really excited about it. Her talk about animal behavior is really intriguing...will have to dig some more. :) Thanks!

Cool...I just got her book Animals in Translation. I totally disagree with her on some things she says about dogs (like she seems to believe both the dominance/alpha wolf bs, and she seems to believe that some dogs are by nature "bad" as in aggressive towards humans, and yes it's pits, and rotties and akitas.

That said, I kept thinking well, she's not an expert in dogs. a lot of the other stuff she has to say, esp. about the function of the brain, is really really interesting.

I've really enjoyed listening to her talk, particularly on NPR, about the need to educate 'different' kids differently. I also like the way that she takes what seem to be abstract concepts and quantifies them for the rest of us. Have not read her book.
