Bad Weather and Shiba Antics

edited January 2008 in Shiba Inu (柴犬)

We're having a bout of nasty weather - 43 C with windchill!  Our pipes froze.

Anyway, Tojo, or should I say Little Princess Paws, was being such a drama queen when we took him out to pee! His feet were cold so he was laying on his side so none of them would have to touch the ground. This is a very wussy step down from what he usually does, which is stand on three legs and rotate which foot gets to be off the ground. Of course, he is, as I type, lying next to me and licking his paws. What a suck.  His paws are fine, by the way.  I checked.

Rakka did not display such wussiness.

Also, the cats got out while people were going in and out trying to get our water pipes unfrozen. Ridley didn't come back like Hester, so we got worried and started calling for him. He wasn't answering and I had no clue where to look for him. I thought I'd try just once more before bed to see if he'd come back in and I could hear a faint, muffled meowing coming from somewhere. I went outside to investigate and it turns out he was stuck under the house! The hole he used to get in was closed shut with ice and snow! Noah got out there with some tools and got the hole opened and pulled Ridley out and he is now safe and secure inside. Phew!  He sure gave us a scare.  I'm just glad he meows in response to his name or I'd have no clue where he was.  I was playing "marco polo" with him for about ten minutes before I pinpointed where he was.

Brandon had told me about this stuff Mushers Secret. I was concerned about Piggys paws, but Moto is a delicate flower when it comes to salt. It rules. The only down side is Moto thinks it is delicious and licks his paws before we go out so it has to be the last thing we do before we go out.

That is so scary about Ridley. I would have freaked out. Thank God you found him!

Nemo and Moto are the same dog.  Nemo also loves to lick the stuff off as I try to apply it.  It's such a pain in the ass as he tries to spin in a circle while I'm holding his rear leg.  It does work pretty damn well though.  Also, if your hands are dry, don't wash it off, just rub it in when you are done with the dog.

I'm glad you got all of your pets inside safely.  Cats like to keep things interesting.

You could order some boots for Tojo, but I still don't know a shiba that will put up with them.

Does that stuff work for their noses too?

    Glad Ridley is safe!

You could put it on their nose, but they might lick it off.  I think it states that it can heal and protect wounds along with just protecting pads.  It's all natural, a really nice product.

I'm just going to sew him some booties since I have the materials on hand.  That'll be quicker than ordering something.

Yesterday morning it was 40.  This morning it was -8 and really, really windy.

Last night I took the dogs out to pee, the winds were 30-50 mph.  The wind smacked them in the face and they both turned and looked at me like "you have to be kidding, take me back inside".   Just nasty out.  Lights even flickered a couple of times, I'm glad the power didn't go out.

It is only -8 c but the wind is 100 contant with 110-120 kph gusts. So its a bit windy.

I lived in Florida for a year, I'm sure Atlanta isn't quite as hot as Orlando, but, I'll take -30 over 95 and humid any day.

Well, our pipes froze again today. Cry  Tomorrow's supposed to be above freezing, though, so I guess it's okay. Like they say, if you don't like southern Alberta weather, just wait a few minutes.

Princess Paws didn't want to go on a walk today. Fine by me!
