You don't need a regualtion clicker, just a consistent marker sound. You can use a ball point pen, the kind you click to put the point out. its a softer sound.
I am obsessed with Karen Pryor at the moment--reading both her "clicker" books at the same time, watching all the vids on her webpage, etc. (And I have Pat Miller's "Power of Positive Training" out too just to cross reference!)
But thanks for the idea of the pen....I wanted to try something that was not a voice marker, but couldn't think of what else to use. I'll try that. When I tried it muffled today (in my pocket) Toby did the same thing he always does....his ears twitch (a lot, so twitch isn't the right word) when he hears the click, and he backs further and further away from me. And he's yawning, licking his lips, so I know he's stressed by it. He wouldn't even come close to me to get the treat, which was steak scraps....so obviously this is not working with him, poor boy.
