this may sound stupid, but...

Does someone need a college degree to become a handler in dog showing?
I would like to become a breeder and show my own dogs, but I don't know if I need to attend college for this? Or do I just need to go through some training classes? Could someone tell me? :)

Nope, not at all. If you can find a local dog club, they will usually offer handling classes and get you orientated to showing a dog in a ring.

No, you don't need a college degree to be a handler. However, it is likely that you will need a college degree and well-paying job to support your dog habit. That's not meant to be snide...it is the truth. Very few people make money breeding and showing dogs. It is primarily a 'money-in' venture.

The majority of breeders hire professional handlers for the AKC rings, but there are some handlers that breed dogs too. Handlers need to make a name for themselves and one common avenue is to apprentice with an existing handler.

If you just want to dabble in showing your own dogs, follow the advise above and find a local club with some handling classes.
