I feed prey modal raw Saya gets tons of variety from beef, chicken, lamb, bison, pork, turkey, and fish(smelt, mackerel, and Alaskan salmon when I can afford it.)
I I try to stick to grass fed beef and free range chicken, but if there's a good deal on meat then I get it long as it's not enhanced meat..
I haven't tried whole prey yet the closest has been the blue gill that I fed Saya after gutting it and freezing it I kept the head on it.. Saya loved it.
I plan to try whole quail and bunnies eventually to see how she does with it.. lol
I fine raw pretty easy now it was a lot of work researching it, but well worth it. Bagging the meat up takes some time, but once it's done I don't have to worry too much about it.
Bella my parent's boxer eats wellness core ocean sometimes she gets some caned food with it and once a week she gets a chicken quarter instead of a meal..
Raw....Though at the moment I'm feeding the little one grain free kibble. I tried him out with some chicken wings cut up, and he loves them, but he doesn't seem to digest the bone well, and it makes him throw up, so I figure I need to wait a bit on the raw for him. Toby, my Shiba, was able to eat chicken wings at 8 weeks, but apparently Oskar is not.
There are a couple of groups that are devoted to BARF (bones and raw food or Biologially appropriate raw food, depending on how you talk to). I haven't been on one in awhile, though I'm wondering if I shouldn't brush up myself, since it's been awhile since I transitioned a young pup to raw. Do a search for BARF which should help.
I'm not interested enough in the diet to be obsessive about it--meaning like the people Rina is talking about who really want to debate the subtleties. To me it is a tool--nutrition--not an obsession. But I certainly have run into people who are obsessive about it! Like right now Oskar is getting grain free kibble (Evo) and some raw food that he can eat. I'll probably get some ground beef for him when I go shopping later today to make some meat/veggie patties for him. I've had people get really worked up about not mixing kibble and raw foods, and sure, I don't think it is ideal, but I also think it's not going to be OMG NO! The breeder I got him from fed her dogs Canidae with lots of additives including raw foods on some days, and her dogs all seem healthy and happy, so even though I do want to switch him over to all raw at some point, it's going to take awhile before the little guy can handle it, apparently. (Poor boy--he's a BIG puppy, but with little tiny baby teeth!)
@shibamistress: Oh okay. If Oskar can't digest bone, why don't you give boneless? Like ground or filet :) maybe even mix it with kibble at first.
And I can agree it's dumb to obsess over it lol

This site has some nice things on the myths of raw feeding.
http://www.rawfed.com/myths/
I've been feeding Saya since March 22 of this year she does great on it.
I researched it a lot and I enjoy the diet I don't obsess over it doing raw is not fun if I have to obsess and go crazy over the diet..
I've read a book on raw forgot the name of it I think raw meaty bone or maybe something else..
