My days with Jason are limited :(

Yeah well, I thought it was going great and I soooo enjoyed taking care of Jason for his owners. But then they told me, that they couldn't handle it afterall, and that they felt it was cruel to Jason, to let him be out in care so much (ehh thanks??), so they have once again decided to sell him :(

To those who didn't read my first story about Jason, I was contacted and asked whether I'd like to foster him once in a while, so that hos owners could have a break and Jason could get some attention. They have 2 GSD and the last one to arrive, a puppy, has only been with them for a couple of months. I find it hard to believe, that they didn't know it would be tough for them, to take care of 3 dogs with their schedule, at that time. But they went ahead and bought the pup anyways, and now Jason has to pay... I am not here to judge, but I can't help thinking, that they should've thought it over a bit more...

Anyways at the present I don't know when he will be sold, but I do know that my days with him are limited. Kinda sad, since I already bonded with the little devil... It might take a while, as they are demanding a high price for a neutered akita male though. Some part of me hope, that they find a good home for him as soon as possible, to give him a safe and happy life, without so much interruption, but ofcourse I will miss him...

  • Selling an adult neutered male? Interesting.

I hope he finds the home that he deserves.

Yes, they neutered him since he lived with 2 male GSD, so he can only go to a pet home. No showing, no breeding, and the owners are demanding almost the same price as we pay for a show quality pup here in Europe. It's quite unrealistic if you ask me (and all other AA people in Denmark) but they'll find out eventually...
  • Oh, this is awful! They're not going to get the money back by trying to sell him, and it doesn't show much concern for the needs of the dog...this is so sad!

They should give him to you! He needs a home where he will be loved and appreciated--poor boy! and while I think it is hard on all dogs to be shifted around, I think it is really hard on the NKs....

    @shibamistress
No I think it's silly that they're trying to get their money back. It should be only about the dog's welfare!! I understand the use of payment to try and sort the not serious owners from the others, but as for trying to get the money back just for the money's sake? That's a no go in my opinion!!!

I wish I could take him, but I really want to show and eventually breed, so I have already paid a deposit for a show and breeding quality pup from Poland, and I cannot use Jason for this :( But if he was free I'd seriously consider it!!!
  • @Brego_mellon_nin:
Tanja, I really think that you should speak to his owners about the welfare of their dog. If they already trusted you enough to care for him when they were too busy, I do not see why they would not trust you to care for him permanently.

I would talk to them. Advise that not only is it ridiculous to request payment for an adult neutered dog, but it is a little immoral as well. Let them know that you would be willing to take him in and permanently adopt him. I would hope that if they actually care for Jason's welfare, that they would take this into consideration and let him stay with you. (That is, if you are willing to take him in, which it sounds like you are.)

I wish Jason the best, and hopefully his current owners will realize that they are being a little ridiculous and greedy.
  • If you did take him, you are already planning on a show AA and a getting a Kai right? Could you take on 3 dogs?

This all may sound sad, but I think this would be great for Jason. My dog goes to school a couple days a week and goes to my parents during the day, but when he's with me he's really with me. My time spent out of work is with him. Sounds like Jason may not be getting quality time with his owners, and a new home would bring stability and a more nurturing environment for him.

That price is a bit ridiculous. I had an issue with the agency I adopted Maymay from. She's a rescue Kai, and there was a time when I believed they cared about money more than her. It ticked me off.
  • As I said I am planning on a show AA and a kai, so I hope that Jason will find a good forever home with somebody else. I really like the guy and if it was to save him from a bad situation, yes I'd take it on me to have 3 dogs (4 with my GSD actually), but otherwise no, I am not going to buy Jason. He's great but I have certain dreams I want fulfilled. I feel selfish to say this, but this has been my dream for so long...

And I can just feel how much Jason loves the attention. When I take my jacket on and we go outside he doesn't immediately wander off, he stays by me in the beginning jumping aroung playing and goofing around. It is SOOOOO charming and funny to watch :) He's such a good boy, and I just love him!

Today out in the forest he checked back in with me like 4 or 5 times for every one time my GSD checked back with me. And he's supposed to be the nihon ken there... Haha...
  • I feel selfish to say this, but this has been my dream for so long...

    I think it's very unselfish......
  • I agree that it is completely unselfish. And it is great that you recognize that taking him on in addition to your future dogs may be too much.

I hope that he finds a good home with people who will spend time with him. He sounds like such a great dog. Keep us updated with what happens with him. And if you find out who he ends up going with, send them an invite to join the forum! :)
  • @sunyata
Thanks Casey, and I sure will keep you all updated. I hope he finds a good home, where maybe I can follow him a bit...
I will try to lure them in here for sure ;)
  • Just heard today, that Jason might be going to a lady here in Denmark, who already owns an akita female, and she has loads of experience with akitas (I think she's had them for 15-16 years), so he'll get a wonderful homeif he goes there... Though it's not final yet, but I will keep you up to speed :)
  • That is wonderful news. I think it's kind of fickle of the owners to not have thought of this sooner and getting the money back, well, I won't even dignify that one! But what a guardian angel you are!
  • Woops, totally forgot to tell the happy ending ;)

The lady with the female akita could not take Jason, but he went to a young woman, also in Denmark, and has lived there happily so far ;)
