Any one try this brand of food before?

I was talking with a friend of mine who runs Catahoula curs and pitbulls on hogs about dog food. He recently switched from a brand name kibble to a brand called Circle J Extreme dog fuel. I looked it up it seems to be widely used among working dogs and its not too bad on price.

I was watching one of my favorit hog hunting video's and Circle J dog food was also sponsered on the program. I read some of the nutrition facts and it seems like a decent brand.

Anyone else out there try this? I recently started using blue buffalo and I can see Taro has tons more energy when we are out hunting but that stuff is a arm and a leg.

Not enough meat. Poultry fat preseved usually has chemicals, no need to feed animals beet pulp (it's comparable to a sugar filler), animal digest?, I would never feed my animals corn or wheat products.

Just my opinion though. Seems like junk food to me.
  • Thanks Tara, I feel that corn and wheat is hard to get away from these days with kibble unless you go to a RAW type diet but my wallet cannot support 4 dogs on RAW. What the hell is animal digest? Maybe I dont want to know. Maybe I will go do a few days of trout fishing and feed my dogs trout with rice and miso soup like I did for Riki when he was younger.
  • Actually, the biggest red flag for me is the "Chicken By-Product Meal" as the first ingredient. That means they take all of the left over chicken parts (bones, tendons, teeth, etc.) and grind it up. It's a minimal amount of actual meat and comparatively likely to be severely lacking in nutritional value.

    In other words, STAY AWAY!
  • I stay away from corn, the few times I've given stuff with corn in it to Baron he hasn't handled it well.
  • Oh yes Dave that's right. It's like Chicken nugget meat. Eow'
  • I love chiken nuggets! Well the commercial on my hunting vid says the opposit. They say that "other" companies use chicken by product but they use real chicken meat and pork meat. I guess thats advertising for ya.

I think I might start making home made foods for my dogs and just vaccuum pack them away. I do admit that since joining this forum, I have been reading food labels more and more. Thanks a bunch Guys!
  • Gen, we have 3 dogs and feed Blue. Yeah, it is expensive, but all our dogs handle it well (though the younger two are on puppy food). I'll PM you about what we add.
  • Right on thanks Kevin.
  • I have been using BG line of food with Kaeda. Here is the breakdown for their Salmon.
