More Shikoku Pictures

I took a few more pictures of Shikoku Ken on Saturday, so I figure I'll post them here.

A very light colored female. This is not a preferred color in the breed, the color in her coat is very diluted. She's not been bred or homed because of it. I just wanted to post the picture as an example of a very light colored Shikoku.

Kuro-goma male, littermate to Koto, my friend's prize winning aka (red) Shikoku male. He has nice coloration, but is a little weak in his hindquarters. He was the runt of the litter, and has not been bred or homed either. I have a better picture of him, but I posted this one for fun for the facial expression.

Here's another of him.

Another stud male, an aka.

  • I know it's not a good color, but I like the diluted Shikoku. :-) That red male is fabulous!

The female Kai is really cute. I like her gold stripe on her buttox. lol May be the pic, but she looks like she's going to be a big girl.
  • Such beautiful dogs...I as well like the diluted one, but that's probably cause you don't see too many of them.
  • I agree, that light colored female is gorgeous!
  • I kinda like the dilute too. :o)

And that little Kai pup is super cute! :o)
  • Oh, that little female Kai pup is adorable!

I liked the dilute Shikoku female as well. She is stunning. :)
  • I like the red/aka male, what expression. :-)

The diluted female is interesting, but I prefer the more bold coloration, either aka or kuro
  • I really like the kurogoma's head, but I don't know if that's my Jindo bias kicking in. Would love to have a Jindo with such a head.

  • So, based upon earlier threads, if the dilute female has good conformation, perhaps she should be bred to a B/T male?
  • Lovely pictures, thanks for posting. I really like the head of the sire of the kuro-goma male, just beautifully set eyes :)
  • Didn't see Sukoshi's mom's question before. In theory, no, it wouldn't "repair" the color.

It may hide it for a generation since dilute is usually recessive, but it can pop out again even in a dog that woud be genetically a black/tan. It'll end up looking like this dog here:
