Loa is in heat!

She's all grown up now! Frown

I see panties in her future, and a hectic few weeks with an unneutered Akita and Kai Ken and no fenced in back yard (yet) to seperate them! Surprised

We have the fence guy planning to start, but he can't do it till the ground thaws a bit... so we have while to wait. Undecided

OH MY!!! Awww...she's all growns up...brings a tear to my eye...they grow up so fast don't they?

Man, Good Luck trying to keep Hilo and Kona away!

I know you guys can handle it. If you recall, Piglet went into heat the day we adopted her and we are still in a city apartment.

It just takes some coordination and silly panties.

a suggestion if I may, buy yourself the fabric diaper cover. But don't buy the dog maxi pads. They cost a fortune and are useless. Go to the drug store and by womens maxi pads. they are more absorbant and a quarter of the price.

Well at least you have all of those crates to help out.  Good luck on not creating any Shi-kitas!

Shi-Kitas! That is my new favorite word.

Good luck, Brad and Jen and Loa too.

it will take some work to keep them separated but you can handle it, for sure.

Thanx guys! We were making the same joke we don't want to make any "Akikoku" or  "Kaikoku" - lol

Jessica - thanx for the suggestion, I thought of you guys when it happened - I remembered Piglet went into heat like right when you got her. Was Moto effected by it?

So far our boys have been pretty unaffected - but supposedly that will come a week into the heat. I'm more concerned that Ahi might become a bit aggressive - but we can handle that. I guess it will make for an interesting next few days (weeks Surprised).

Moto had so much to adjust to, and he is such a little punk, he wasn't too different. He is neutered though. I have a feeling Hilo may be a bit more of a handful.

    Lol have fun Brad :P

I wanna see some diaper pictures :D

I would use a washable dog diaper, but that's me. I make cloth diapers for Isaac, too. In fact, these dog diapers look almost exact like baby cloth diapers.

I used a cloth diaper with a maxi pad w/ wings. She otherwise would bleed around the diaper.

Well, we are not sure but we think she might be having a split heat - her signs seem to have reduced significantly. so who knows... hmmm....
  • edited November -1
Forgive my ignorance, but what is a split heat?
  • edited November -1

It's kinda like a "fake-out" - it starts, lasts for a week or so then goes away... a few weeks later (approx. six weeks) the real deal starts.

There is also a "silent heat", where they go through their first heat but show very little signs and do not attract male dogs. She could be having one of those instead.

Thanks. That clears it up. Smile

So looks Like Loa's heat is coming to an end. It went pretty well, she only needed a diaper for about 2 of the weeks - it was a bit frustrating because she quickly learned to pull her diaper off so we could not have one on her at night in her crate.... so that made things a little messy at times.

The boys were surprisingly unaffected by it, they showed a little more interest in her rear-end but nothing like uncontrollable. It tended to make Hilo drool a lot more (gross), but he was a gentleman about it.

Interesting thing we noticed, Loa being in heat made Ahi clean herself a lot more (Ahi is fixed) than normal... like maybe she thought the pheromones were coming from her.

So, looks like it is slowing just in time for the trip to LA - thank god. She is still a bit swollen, but she is mos def at the very end of the heat cycle.

Glad that things went well and you didn't have to wrestle with an Akita full of raging hormones who was trying to hump the couches face off.

Congrats to Loa on her first heat cycle!  Thats interested how Ahi started cleaning herself more often.  I wonder if she wansnt fixed if they would go into heat around the same time?  Like humans, if 2 girls spend a lot of time together, they start to get their periods at the same time.   Im glad the boys weren't going crazy for her.  Good job Loa!

Yea, that's a good point Romi - I'm gonna look that up. :c)

I was ready for Hilo to become a a handful, but he was really pretty mellow.

  • edited November -1

Perhaps that's just Hilo's personality....he seems to be a pretty mellow guy. Smile Except, of course, when Kaia plays hard to get. Frown

Congratulate Loa on her timing for me!

Tenji will be bummed that her heat is overYell.   He's a horny devil.

LMAO! I'm sure there will be other hot ladies there for Tenji to proposition. Wink

Well... it looks like we spoke to soon. I think Loa had a "split-heat", so the first wave was just the "fake out" part... and the real deal started right before we left for LA.

Her heat has changed the dynamics of the pack significantly!

Hilo has now become a horny monster! lol It is not like we have to fight him off (tho if we let them interact enough that may be the case, but we are obviously not gonna allow that), he just whines a lot and seems to be giving off an "overly excited" vibe... it actually cause Ahi to get a bit testy with him - that is something that has never happened.

Also0 Loa is not down with Hilo's vibe - she has been a bit bitchy to him too.

So... looks like we have another three weeks... this should be fun (being sarcastic)!
