What is “sesame”?

Can someone give me the definition of the color “sesame” in the Shikoku standard? There is “Red Sesame”, “Black Sesame” and “Sesame”.... A picture would be most helpful.

Ahi is a perfect example of black sesame

    This is what I found

    Definition of the colour sesame:

Sesame : Equal mixture of white and black hairs.

Black sesame : More black than white hairs.

Red sesame : Ground colour of hair red, mixture with black hairs.

I would assume this is Sesame Colored Shikoku

Thanx! I'm color blind so I have a hard time understanding the color terms in the breed standards.

So would you consider Loa to be a sesame or red sesame? She has more red on her than the Shikoku posted above, but I would not consider her to have "Ground colour of hair red, mixture with black hairs".

I think Loa looks like a Red Sesame, from the pics and videos you post.  I would assume Sesame means maybe that the primary color in the coat is white.  But what do i know, Im just guessing.  Black Sesame - Primary Color Black.  Red Sesame - Primary Color Red.  Sesame - Primary Color White...or maybe Light Brown?  I dont know. lol

When Katja wrote to me to tell me Himiko was born she said that all the pups were res sesame. Some were light red some dark red. I think Loa would be light red sesame.

I would think Loa is red.  I still struggle with Niko's color.  I think she is red but she has a lot of black hairs....

yea, the color thing is super confusing (especially if you are color blind) - it's just so ambiguous.

Loa has about as much white on her belly as the Shikoku pic above... but she mos def has more red color. Undecided

For a Shiba or Shikoku (I'm assuming) to be called a sesame, the sesame has to be very distinct, like Ahi or the picture posted above.  I don't think Niko would be considered sesame, just a bad (by show/breed standards) coat.  Kind of along the lines of being a pinto, just a miscoloring that is a fault.

Shibas are accepted in red, red/sesame, sesame, black and tan. Niko and Nemo both would be considered red. No sesame.

Shikoku come only in sesames. Loa would be light red sesame. Or even just sesame. I know shiba and shikoku come in white and pinto and they are cute as hell. Just not show pups.

And who really cares about that? really.

Brad,  Tenji and Ronan are red-sesame.  Loa looks like she is red-sesame as well.
