Another one down.

Went out again this morning to a new location near the area where I bagged the turkey from yesterday. I was met with gobbling activityabout half hour before sunrise from almost 360 degrees around me from bout 10 different gobblers. My first set up was great as I called in about 12 young toms simillar to the bird I took yesterday. They kept coming in by trios and it was great watching them tryin to mount my hen decoy.

At about 0930, I decided to try a small clearing bhind my location and after setting up, I immediately got gobbles from three jakes. As the jakes came into the clearing, three large toms made their way toward me and began fighting with each other. As I waited to se which bird was the dominant gobbler, one big pissed off tom chased all the turkeys out of the clearing and began walking toward my decoy.

I slowly inched around the tree since he was directly to my right and as I took the safety off gun, the tom noticed memove and came out of the full strut and gave me just enough time to put his lights out. Since the turkey was so close to my location (10 paces), he went down like a sack of rocks. Final tally 23lbs, 1 inch spurs, and a 10 inch beard.

Sorry about the horrible photo, I need to do some thing about that farmers tan! Stink'n asian rednick...

  • Yay! That is a very nice spread :) are you mounting either of those?
  • I'm just doing fan and beard mounts. I usually just do fan mounts for the jakes. I have one full mount on a big turkey I shot awhile back. Full mounts can get really pricey!
  • Cool!! We have a very cool fan mount that hangs in the kitchen from one Trevor got a few years ago. He even mounted it himself and it turned out really well. I agree that the full mounts are a bit too pricey and personally I think the fan's are the best part...well besides eating it lol :)

Wow ! Nice! 23 lbs this time? Gen if it comes down to it, u can always spray tan lol!
  • Awesome! Geh I'm jealous. And there's nothing wrong with a farmer's tan! I used to have one all the time. I need more sun...
I was sporting a trucker's tan a few months back. That was pretty funny.
  • What's your limit on gobblers in CA?
  • Hopefully I'll go ut on a tuna boat durig the summer and get toasted. Our state limit is 3 so I'm going to take the last one with my bow.
  • Nice job Gen. Way to be patient for that big Tom. :-)
  • Wow, that's pretty cool.....everytime I read about your hunting successes, I think, need to go eat at Gen's house! I bet that turkey will be really good...

I have to say that the yard bir I got saturday was just lip smacking good. Took the giant breast filets and seasoned with pepper, salt, a bit of game spice mix, rubbed it down with butter, packed chopped onions, garlic, celery, and packed it in a foil, slow cooked in oven for a hour. Side of grilled asparagus, fried up some seasoned potatos. It was soooooo freak'n good. The kids ate like they were starving.
  • Wah. K, I need to make my way to your house from now on after a turkey goes down.
