  I'm not really sure. Some comments said yes because the uterus will still be there, some said no because without the hormones the cervix wont open and bacteria wont get in. But they were random comments, can't seem to find info on it that I can understand lol.

  Whole Dog Journal did an article about it a while ago. Basically, the differences between them are the short term symptoms and risks, the long term ones are the same. Surgery time is cut in half with an ovariectomy with less complications and quicker recovery.
  
  Apperantly with pyo, the risk of getting it is not eliminated but severely reduced (like a %1 chance). Progesterone would have to be avoided, as this apperantly is what would cause such things as pyo from emerging.
  
  I'm opting to go for a ovariectomy with Miyu, but am having a hard time convincing or finding a vet that is willing to leave the uterus in.

  I love you Beth! I really need to subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal. I've been meaning to for over 3 years now and have yet to get around to it lol.

  Rina, you should subscribe! It's great! (I have been known to buy subscriptions for dog people for gifts!) Anyway, I do wish vets would catch up with some of the less drastic procedures. It's the same with neutering....esp. after Oskar's problems after the surgery, I would have much rather had a vasectomy done than the actual castration. Seems to me it would be best to do the least invasive things possible, but....

  I just got a two year subscription after reading this thread. I thought, how many times am I going to read Beth (and others) say, "I read in the Whole Dog Journal..." and then say something really interesting before I get a clue and subscribe? I'm enjoying the online archives, that's for sure.
