LOL, thats really cute!  Your dogs are buff! Mine just lay down and sleep.

that's really cute - Kaia HATES motorcycles... and Ahi looks at them like they are aliens when we drive by them.

The buckle thing cracked Jen and I up, we have the same issue... Hilo and Loa always spin all around and end up in a knot.

Your Akita are great, they are super good looking (secret... your male & female Akita couple is partly what motivated Jen to want a female Akita Wink).

LMAO. Sorry about helping to motivate Jen. LOL. Have you decided on the brindle girl?

(here's my secret....urging other people to get dogs relieves my own urge to get another dog. hehehehehehe)

Yeah the buckles are a pain in the ass. And they ALWAYS move around so much. Mika moves because she has A.D.D. Keigo HATES being squished, and Mika squishes up against him in the car!

That's too funny. We don't see too many motorcycles in Atlanta. I think people are scared for their life riding around town. I'd be curious to see how Lucy does.

Brad: Do you buckle your Shibas in as well? I don't but my mother, who has been in the car with Lucy a grand total of four times, yells at me about it every chance she gets.

(my secret....both of your Akitas are making me want to get one! Tongue out)

Sasha likes to bark at people that walk to closely to the vehicle while we are stopped.  It gets to be quite viscious if you ask me.  As of the buckle, I am coming to the conclusion we need one to strap her down.  She likes to come up and like you while your driving, gets to be extremely distracting with a dog coming up and sticking their face in yours and does one giant lick.

Such trouble my babies are causing. LOL.

Yes, we buckle all the dogs in - that way we have no concern that they will just out of the car if the windows are down... and we do it for safety, obviously. The Shibas do the best w/ the seat belts, they just sit there like good little pups.

We use these to connect them to the seat belt thing (tho Loa just chewed through one):

We use these as the harnesses (we use these because they seem to be more comfortable and support all of their weight via the handle):

    Hope that helps!

    BUCKLE YOUR DOGS!!!!!

3 days ago Moto was in the back seat. I had to stop abruptly, as he was leaping forward. He banged into my steering wheel and broke my key off in the ignition. It is a $300+ dollar key. Can we say pissed? Thank god we are all safe.

    But I was livid.

Moral of the story, buckle your dogs. Especially Shibas.

Poor Moto. Glad you're all ok.

Definitely buckle in your dogs!!! My biggest fear is them trying to jump out of the car, so we have a buckle that really limits their movement. They can lie down or sit and turn, but that's it. That's why Mika's legs were all squished in the video.

Even still, I rarely let the windows down all the way. I'm such a freak mommy.

Grrrr. I've known in the back of my mind that I should be buckling Lucy in but for some reason I've been resisting it. I wish I could articulate why but I have absolutely no idea.

I don't think she would notice the difference at all. She just stands with her front paws on the center console and her back paws on the rear seat and she'd probably still be able to do that after being buckled in.

I think you guys convinced me!

We buckle Ryu in as well. he LOVES to stick his head out of the window so as he got bigger, we knew we had to strap him in. We use a harness and strap and he just chills out in the middle (in the truck anyway)... Ryu LOVES car rides :)

As for the motorcycle thing, we have a silver one and the little bugger hardly notices it. Our neighbors have a black one and Ryu hates it. But he also hates the black guitar in our living room... maybe black shiny things throw him off? :)

Dave. Could you possibly resist the idea because the original suggestion came from your mother? LOL.

Pam...Too funny that Ryu hates the guitar.

Nemo always gets buckled or he jumps back and forth like crazy.  I got his from Dr's foster and smith, the harness is not as nice as the one that Brad posted but it keeps him safer.

Also, buckle your dogs in the back if you have two front airbags (most people do now).  The airbag could go off and injure your dog (kind of like a baby).

Also, for those of you that have cats, you should put them in a crate to keep them safe as well.

I agree with Brendon....NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buckle your dogs into the front seat.

i have to admit - never once thought about the airbags! We have a manual switch in our truck to turn the passenger side airbag on and off and it's been off for the past 6 years (hmmm, maybe I should question my husband as to WHY that has been the case). But, point well taken, and Ryu will now ride in the backseat of MY car! Thanks guys!

Ha ha. Very funny Barbara. Tongue out In this case my aversion to it actually came before my mother's pestering.

Brad: Those buckles look very cool. I'm gong to have to pick one up. The few times I've strapped Lucy in I have tied a leash around the head rest in the front. Those would work much better.

Thanks all for the suggestions and experiences!

We got two harnesses, one for the dog and one for the cat, with seat belt adapters. Although I was looking for something that wouldn't need the dog's help to put it on ( something that had those click-on buckles on the sides) I got something that has to go in from the feet up, but after i saw it I like it better like that. It's sturdier. The cat harness doubles as a harness to walk her outside, as we plan to do. I wonder how that will turn out...

yea, those leash / seat belt deals are cool - we never use them as leashes tho... not for any reason other than they are always in the car. We have gone through a few different dog seat belt products, they are all ok but I like the combination we have now. Tho it is kinda a costly solution for 6 dogs.

The harness I posted are very good for hikes - that is why we purchased them first then realized they worked well as seat belt harnesses too.

I like ruffwear stuff. A lot of their items are somewhat gimicy, but they are a gimic that at least appears usable. I absolutely love Lucy's ruffwear leash.

I have some friends with a Swissy that use the palisades pack and think the world of it.

At this point, I've already got five leashes, three collars (plus one that broke), and a harness for Lucy so I'm not sure I can talk myself into buying another leash and harness. Or can I? Hmmm. This is a toughy! Undecided

Leonb...I tried to 'walk' Jewel....HA! Twas funny, indeed. At first she resisted. After 2 minutes, she became catatonic, so I dragged her across the living room. I tried to stand her up again, no go.

I have seen cats happily walking in the park on a leash. So funny. I've also seen a guy walking his Ferret, which (for shits a giggles) happened to be while I was walking Mika. FUN, that was.
