Quick Raw Feeding Question

I just have a quick question regarding the freezing of raw meats. Kaiya and I will be heading on a 400 mile each direction road trip for the holidays. My parents live not far from a GREAT fresh food market with a huge selection of butchers a fish market. Since we cant take Kaiya's RAW with us (we will take freeze dried), I wanted to buy her some liver or something at the market when we go on xmas eve. Would I need to freeze it prior to serving and if so, for how long? I feel like i read somewhere that it needed to be frozen for 30 days, but that seems a little long to me and obviously if thats the case, she wont be getting a treat. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

  • I give grocery meat fresh from the container liver, kidney, pork, chicken, beef, lamb etc.

Only thing I freeze for extended time is wild game like rabbit, goose, deer, wild caught fish. Some people freeze pork for a bit before feeding.

Fish I get from store already been frozen for long time so I give it fine.

I'll sometimes give Saya fresh liver as I portion it all out.

I try to get it cut into pieces semi frozen makes it easier.
  • I'm like Nicole--I only freeze certain things. I do usually freeze pork first, and would with wild game, but everything else, I just feed fresh, unless of course I need to freeze parts to preserve it.
  • I get lazy so a lot of stuff stays frozen in the freezer chest lol. :( But if I get things from the grocery store I usually just give it to them without worrying about freezing it for a certain amount of time.
  • I usually freeze everything for three days but every once in a while I'll give something that hasn't been frozen. Wild game is something I'd freeze for a month or so first.
  • Ok so its pretty much just wild game then. I plan to put it in the freezer for a day because the princess tends to prefer her food to be frozen anyways. Thank you all!
