UKC Recognition of the Japanese Akita!

Title says it all. (I beat you, Sean!) Here's the official announcement from JACA:

"We can now officially say that there are two breeds of Akita in the United States. The board and members of JACA would like to offer our sincere appreciation to the UKC for working with us on making our efforts a reality. This is an exciting time for all of us but especially for the Japanese Akita fancy in the US. We look forward to continued cooperation and progress to improve and preserve our breed.

"Simple put we have a new home and a new breed. The UKC Japanese Akita."

Today is momentous!!

(Nevermind, see Sean's post below which explains better than I could.)
  • So Brad this has been the secret project lol. I'm actually relieved that I can talk about it now.

UKC approved this exactly two weeks ago. The standard is in place and this will be a pedigree based new breed. I want to stress that this is not a split. Nobody will be moved any where. A new breed will be created at UKC. I'm happy because we now have a home for our Akiho dogs.

Other than that, I will save the other details for UKC. I will try and answer as many questions as I can but it is a little thing right now.

Can I get a sticky for this?

  • Nice, that sounds great. Congrats!

Do you want a new sticky, or do you want this to be a sticky?

  • this will work. I'll add information as it comes in.

  • I unannounced this thread and moved it to the "Recomended Discussions" section. I think that's a better place for it. If you guys would prefer it be an announcement, I can reannounce it.
