Gen @shishiinu (the owner of Kishin's sire and dam) gave some details on the old kishu ken earlier: "he (kishin) really has the old kishu look that I really like (larger ears, larger facial muscles, bigger eyes, etc)."
I see all of you are from USA. How many Kishu there are in USA? >> There is only two breeders in the USA. Gen is one of them. I would estimate there are less than 100 Kishu Ken in North America.
What do you think about my Kishu? >> I think your Kishu are very nice looking. I'm curious if you have ever hunted with them?
Are they also the old Kishu? >> Your Kishu look like they are nice NIPPO representatives. Meaning, they have the NIPPO show look to them (smaller ears and such). I think you should be proud of your dogs. They are very nice. )
What is difference between the "old" and "new" Kishu? >> @Hinata23 pasted what Gen ( @shishiinu ) had written before. I can add a little more about Kishin and my experience with Kishu. But I will let Gen give more detail if he has time...
Last I was in Japan I had the honor of hunting with Kondo-san, which is where Yuki, Kishin's mother, came from. Then also I was able to hunt with Baron, who is Taro's brother (Taro is Kishin's father). So when Gen told me he was thinking about breeding them, given how much I liked Baron and all of Kondo-san's dogs, I told him I wanted a male from the litter.
Later we imported a Yushoku Kishu Ken from a different line. It was my intention to keep her here, but she ended up being a bit too energetic to keep with the other dogs. So she lives with Gen's brother now, and is named Nami.
Taro and Baron are from Hosoda-san's breeding line, so they are very strong boar hunting dogs. Many of the hunting-line Kishu Ken have a different look to them, since they have not been as refined by NIPPO dog shows. Because of this Kondo-san's and Hosoda-san's dogs tend to have a distinct look to them - larger ears is an example of this. These traits are typical of the historic Kishu Ken, the Kishu Ken from 20+ years ago as NIPPO had not yet refined the breeds to their current look (with smaller ears and eyes).
Can you send me a pedigree of Kishin please? >> I'd be happy to send you a copy, as soon as I have it. ) I should receive it in the next few weeks from Gen (or NIPPO).
Brad you have 20 dogs? Me just 8. :-) What dogs you have? >> Yea, we have several dogs. It's always changing around here. Kishin is my first Kishu. I would rather have closer to 8, but it will be a long time before we get down to that number. We have a Kai Ken breeding program, so most of our dogs are Kai. Then I have some hunting dogs, and some working (guard) dogs.

@poeticdragon - The secret to knowing how many dogs we have at any given time is FB. Count the number of dog albums we have. I keep that updated and remove dogs who no longer living with us (except for Parka, he's still there). ;o)
What does mean the name Kishin? >> Well, it can have several meanings. The meaning I used when I named him was "Aristocrat" (貴紳), but there is another more commonly used meaning of "fierce god" or "demon" (鬼神). I *think* we used the 貴紳 version for his registration... But, Gen would need to confirm that.
Hello Brad. Sorry for my late reply, I was very bussy. I have to thank you for all your answers - very interesting. I realy love your Kishu dog a lot! All your dogs are beautiful. Do not you plan to go for Holiday to Czech republic with him sometimes :-) hihi. You asked me about the hunting. It is forbiden here in Czech. Only the forestkeeper can do such things but they have also strict rules. If I do it with my dogs, they will shoot them easily. We have very strict rules about it. So the answer is no, i am not hunting with them. And I must also say I do not like to see to kill another animals. I am a big lover of all animals. Anyway, now between the pups we have one very strong female - I am sure she will be very good in hunting, she is hunting already all her sisters and brothers in the nest - hihi. And Brad - by mistake she is still available :-) Best Regards.Lenka
@Lenka - That's a shame do not allow hunting with dogs in Czech republic. I understand what you mean about not wanting to hurt animals, it was hard for me to transition to hunting, however I feel it's important to do it to keep the dog's instincts - especially in our Laiki.
No I don't, but I probably should. The thing is, Kishin doesn't go too far he just doesn't let me get him. He'll come for some treats, but usually only once. He's just kinda an ass... so a long line would probably help...
@Brad Akuma will do the same thing if I let him off lead. he will either run past me and take off again or he will come within ten feet of me and stop then trot away.
@Brad That is what Bella does, it is rare for her to go more than 10m away, she only started to wander off the other day as a friend and I took longer at a lookout than she thought was worthy of her interest.
I'm also thinking that a short "tag" leash attached to her harness may be all I need to get her back, as I would have more to grab when she jets past, or acts up.
It might be worthwhile to have blood drawn and sent out for allergy testing. They can test both food and environmental allergens. That way you could quickly pinpoint what is causing the issue. They can also customize a allergy shot you can give yourself if it is environmental. Did this for a mix breed I had several years ago who had terrible allergies. Once she started on the allergy shots, she was like a puppy again. Her skin and coat improved and she lived a long happy life.
I would always be singing to him. "Quiche Lorraine"
"Everyday I take him out. Yea! He runs around, he shouts out "BARK!" Cause he's a good doggie He's a sweet, sweet, sweet puppy! And I know he'll stick by me,

My better trail shiba knows what recall is, and is fantastic at ignoring it. Do you use long lines?
I'm also thinking that a short "tag" leash attached to her harness may be all I need to get her back, as I would have more to grab when she jets past, or acts up.
Food for thought.
