Even Shibas can be a long wait, or should be. ANY purebred dog should take some time to get, because if it's not taking awhile, that means that the person is not doing their research to find a really good breeder. I mean, there are lucky coincidences: someone is looking for a dog and a breeder has a litter upcoming or a young dog needing a home. But usually it takes awhile, unless people are buying from BYBs and/or mills.
My friend has been wantin a Golden retriever puppy for awhile, and she just got word that she's on the list of a breeder she really likes, and that they will breed the bitch sometime between March and May depending on her heat cycle. She started contacting people in Sept, and found this breeder in Nov, and just heard back. And that's for a Golden!
Kai Ken are a RARE breed. There aren't many around. Waiting two years is not bad at all--some people have waited longer. When I'm thinking of how long it takes to get a puppy (NOT a rare breed) I'd say 1 year is about right (unless there are coincidences, noted above).
