Brad - YAY! That is a really cute girly name!  I think it will fit her great!

Jamie - Kangai is pronounced Kan-ga-ee (Kahn-Guy) .  Its an interesting meaning too, it means to have strong feelings or deep emotions, never heard it as a name before.

Romi & Ryu - Thanx! We are really happy with the name, I think it fits her "looks". We will see if it fits here personality in a week or so.

(I have heard "Lani" pronounced with the "ni" rhyming with the word "eye"... something like "La-nI" [I dunno how to spell that phonetically - I'm a tard]... that is why I said there may be a different way to pronounce it Wink)

Jamie - Lani is being imported from a kennel in Poland. The breeder's name is Izyda, I have been communicating pretty regularly with her for the past few years. She also breeds Shikoku-Ken and has a pup from Akashima's first litter (same breeding as Ahi). She is a smaller kennel, and she takes very good care of her dogs. I really respect her standards - all her dogs live in her home and she spends a lot of $ to get healthy (and beautiful) Akita Inu bloodlines.

She actually presented Lani (Eriko) to us as a new born, and we wanted to get her so bad, but it was right in the middle of our move so we passed. She is just really pretty and her dad is RYUU-GO (Hilo's dad).

Well, long story short, it was finally the right time for us to start looking into building our Akita Inu "breeding pool" and I contacted her to let her know we would be interested in her future RYUU-GO breedings... She said that she kept Eriko for showing & breeding but was just to slammed with here Shikoku-Ken pups and would consider homing her to us.... we talked for a while... and we signed a breeding contract with her for Lani (Eriko).

    Anyway, to answer your questions:

    - Yes, she is for breeding. She represents our first Akita Inu for breeding. We have a male coming from Emilie (O' Chanur kennel) later this year. That will probably be it for us till we produce our second Akita Inu litter in 4 - 6 years or so, unless an opportunity comes up that I can't pass up. <- I have to watch what I say now. Wink

    - Due to Hilo's health issues (which we have learned are not genetic) he will not be bred. Actually he will be neutered in a few weeks (he doesn't know that yet). Plus Lani and him share the same dad... so that's a "no brainer". lol.

    - She should arrive in Denver on the 12th - I just wired the funds today to pay for the shipping!

Congrats Brad! I like the name a lot, especially the pronunciation you've chosen. I can't wait to see how she fits into our pack.

    Brad-

Wow congrats! 3 in 1 year! =) Kona, Loni and then the upcoming male! and I thought you stoped at Kona...they are just like chips you cant have just one! as everyone in here is pretty fimilar with that...lol.

How much is it costing you for just shipping Loni here from Poland? Kangai is in Poland too and im trying to figure out how much the shipping cost is from Poland to the US, preferably to Metro in Detroit.

It is not cheap to ship her - but we didn't cheap out either.

Last time when we shipped Hilo from Madrid it was 500 EUR - but most of his health issues may stem from that shipping... so we are a little paranoid with this one.

So for Lani it is costing us 1500 EUR. That includes Izyda's travel expenses to the airport (she doesn't have a car) and a bag of the food she feeds since we can't seem to find it in the US.

WOW. I missed alot! Congrats on the name. It is  much better than Eriko.

Romi: I didn't speak tagalog until I was about 24, but like you, I understood fluently. For whatever reason, I just decided I must know how to speak so I just started to speak the language. I have trouble putting sentences together, but I still try.

Brad:  Thor's  Hammer reminds me of Adventures in Babysitting! I believe the word you're thinking of is Lanai (le-neye) - which is a porch (and an island close to Maui).

Adventures in Babysitting used to be my all time favorite movie lmao. I watched it day in and day out.

Brad - so is she 1500 in Euros total? Her price plus flight? Does someone actually take care of the dog while they are being flown over? like feeding it and giving it water? How long of a flight is that from Poland to the US?

  • edited November -1

1500 EUR includes the flight, the crate, Izyda's travel expenses, and the "puppy passport". The cost I'm sure is effected by the fact Lani is 60lb already.

Some flights have an overnight stopover for the dog - this flight is direct and I think it's like 9 hours or something... I dunno tho, when I get all the details I will let you know.

All these pet travel/shipping places have a crew that tends to the dogs when they are not in flight, but during flight I think the dogs are on their own.

Yay, you picked my favourite name!  I win!  Congratulations.  I'm excited for you.  Are you going to be breeding shikoku as well or just akita?
  • edited November -1

We are not sure at this point.

I think i would have to take the Shikoku plunge if you started breeding them!
