When she sheds, she SHEDS!

Rakka started her spring moulting 15 minutes ago... as in 20 minutes ago, she was showing no signs of losing any fur, then I suddenly look over and think, "Holy crap!  Time to pull out the undercoat rake and deshedding blade!"  She was scratching herself and it was coming off in tufts and getting caught in her foot.  Here's what it looked like after she scratched herself:

Last time she started shedding, I wasn't home.  She wasn't shedding when I left and when I came back, both couches and the entire living room floor were COVERED with a thick layer of fur.  This one gets right down to business, I tell you!  Time for some intensive grooming!

Nice. What a good girl to condense the whole thing into a short period for you. Lucy has been shedding for over a month now and I'm starting to get a little tired of it. The bulk of it is finished, but she still leaves hair everywhere.

Consider yourself one of the lucky ones!

Yeah, it's definitely handy.  Tojo started a few weeks ago and isn't quite finished.  He got the bulk of it done in the first week, but he's still got a bit of a fluffbutt thing going on.

On a side note, this shedding is sooooo much easier with my deshedding blade (furminator knockoff) and undercoat rake.  I seriously need to find whoever was perpetuating the myth that slicker brushes are enough to get out a dog's undercoat and give them a good talking to.

Keigo was shedding throughout February...now it's Mika's turn...AGAIN??? She just blew her coat in November. UGH! I think I'll be getting a furminator.

Yea, Ahi is the same way - it's hectic when they (Shikoku) blow their coats. Ahi is done - it lasted about 3 weeks. She looks like a different dog now.

Here's Rakka looking all patchy and then Noah grooming her with the deshedding tool.  He wasn't even half done when that picture was taken and there's still lots of fur to come off!

Geez. That's hectic. All in one day?

BTW, is she fully grown? I finally have an appreciation for her size. I always thought she was bigger.

I wish Nemo would shed like that.  He rarely sheds anything, not sure if it is the fish oil or what.  I really have to brush the tar out of him to make a small pile.

Dave - She's fully grown.  She's on the small side compared to other shikokus.

This morning there are fresh tufts of fur all over the living room. Tongue out

Tenji FINALLY finished shedding a couple of weeks ago but the "act of shedding" lasted for a month. There was a constant mess wherever you looked.    We could easily fill a grocery bag with dog fur using the furminator.  Ohh, just can't wait until the next bout!Yell
