Time for the next installment of...A Little Lucy and Joey Spam!!!! (Sorry for all the pictures spam, but it was a good picture taking weekend!)

My parents came down to Atlanta to visit for the weekend. It was a lot of fun for me, them, and the pups. Lucy seems to really like my mom and Joey is all about my dad. Go figure? Anyway, while sitting around on Saturday, I got a great snuggle in with Lucy. My mom snapped a sequence of pictures of it that I just love!

On Sunday, we went for a nice long walk in Piedmont park. We took a little break on shady bench:

Afterwards, we had a late lunch at the Park Tavern which is a dog friendly restaurant that overlooks one of the big lawns in the park. It was a lot of fun! We then took Lucy and Joey over to the dog park for some off leash time. It was Joey's first time in a public dog park and he do soooooo well.

He spent a good part of the time there playing with a JR who had a toy he fancied:

Guess who came out ahead in the end?

A couple of the obligatory actions shots (not as good as Brandon's though :-/):

He does look like my baby! :-) Dave, that picture of the two of them is unreal! Joey looks huge!!

I love the snuggle pics. Glad she's back to our sweet girl Lucy :-)

Great stuff! Really great! Joey's huge!! And seems to have tenacity to spare, just ask that Jack Russel, hehehe.
You look a lot like your dad!

Joey has gotten so big!! I can't wait to see him again - are you doing the meetup this month? I know you've got a lot going on with Lucy right now, though.

Is Joey as big as Lucy already? He looks like it! I LOVE the pix of you and Lucy. So cute!

aw lucy looks so tiny next to her little brother!!!

Thanks guys! :-) And thanks Rui, I've been told I do look a lot like my father, especially when he was younger. I'll take that as a compliment. ;-)

Joey is HUGE already. He rear end is as tall as Lucy's but he's still a little shorter in the front. He is also a good 4 inches less than her lengthwise. Last time he was weighed which was a week and a half ago he was 14.6 pounds, so I suspect he's right at or above 15 by now.

LJ: I'm waiting to see how Lucy does on the steroids before I decide about the meetup. There's a possibility I may bring Joey and leave Lucy, but only time will tell. It's coming up pretty soon right?

on the 18th - it's the hike at Stn Mtn - about a mile, afterwards I plan to go over to either Graves Park or Pinkneyville for some off-leash time with Jazz. Rach was considering that and I think Elaine too.

Very cute pictures of you and 'baby' Joey. Treasure them, because they grow up so fast and you wonder where the puppy went!

Awesome pics dave! Joey is getting so big!!! He looks like the same size as Lucy already! Looks like you all had a great time. Thanks for the pics!

Dave, did you get Joey because he matches your beard? He is adorable.
  • edited November -1
Hehe. Nope, that was a pleasant surprise. ;-)

Joey has grown like a weed since we last saw you! Lucy LuLu has a beautiful face and I'm glad to see she is doing better. I hope Jake will be nice. He's a wanna be :-) You know how I get nervous sometimes but I think Shibas know the proper etiquette so we should be o.k.

Walking in the neighborhood last night we encountered a dog, mixed of some kind, that I see often. The dog may be female and is 2 foot larger than Jake with a very intense stare that I can't figure. Anyway, she walks off leash a lot and she was at this time. Jake did very well with her, as she did him. Both smelled each other's backends and there was no problem and the walkers, in the distance were pleased. I told them, he's o.k., he's been socialized at doggie parks and knows how to act. They said 'that's good, he's a beautiful dog!' I said 'thanks' :-) and we went on our way.

Jake has one eye that seems to be draining so we are gonna see the Vet on Saturday. Not sure if it's allergies or what. He's had it for a while, but now it seems to both him so we'll get it checked out.

Here's a little spam from the last few days....

We went hiking at Red Top Mountain State Park on Saturday. This was just before Lucy started showing signs of not feeling very well. Lucy and Joey seemed to have a great time!

Here they are during our lunch break:

Lucy checking out Lake Altoona (from a distance of course):

Joey got a bit slow toward the end but Lucy fired up the after burners when she realized we were getting close to the car. Here's Joey plopped down next to the car after we got back. He didn't move from that spot for 10 minutes while I was putting things away and getting ready to leave.
    image

Since then, as I mentioned in Lucy's surgery thread, Lucy has been lethargic and depressed. Here she is after our evening walk tonight. She crawled under the blanket so I covered her the rest of the way:

This about sums up how things have been going the last few days...Lucy feeling sorry for her self on the couch while Joey is entertaining himself:

We did have a little breakthrough tonight though. We halved her prednisone dosage again (she's down to 5mg a day from 20) and for the first time in a week she ate her entire dinner and even played with Joey for 10 minutes!!!!!

In that first picture, something really has their attention. I can't believe how big Joey has gotten - I hope you guys can make it Sunday.

Lucy looks so sad in that close-up in the blanket. Joey makes me think of the typical kid, oblivious to everything else.

Those pics are great! Lucy in her little nest is so cute... Maui loves it when we make him a little nest like that. Shibees are so cute.

    Joey is so handsome!
I love Lucy's all terrain red harness!
  • edited November -1
Hehe. Lucy HATES it! It's a little to big for her (she was in between sizes). I'm planning to give it to Joey in a few weeks when he is bigger and get her a new one.
  • edited November -1
Great hike, it seems! Joey is getting huge, is he bigger than Lucy already?
That's good news that she's feeling better and more comfortable to play, really great!

I like the harness too, I like how it has that extra attachment point. I wonder how Kuma would like this...

Funny you should ask that Ruui. Last night when we were going up to bed, for the first time I thought to my self "Joey is officially bigger than Lucy now." So, I think the answer to your question is yes.

I got Lucy the harness for two reasons. First, a few months ago I was convinced that buckling my dogs in the car is the right thing to do and I wanted a more substantive harness that would provide adequate support. Second, I have a dream of doing some backpacking with my dogs so I wanted to get Lucy used to having something more bulky on her back before I put her in a backpack. I suspect if you allowed Kuma to get a bit bigger and you made sure to get him the appropriate size, he wouldn't mind it too much.

Nice pictures Dave, it looks like you had a nice hike on Sunday.

Nice hiking shots. I love the Lucy in her nest. It's good to hear that she's eating again.

Nice pics Dave! I love how the first picture shows the real size of a Shiba (in relation to the backpack). Shibas can look so huge in pictures and the backpack really puts it into perspective :-)

Poor Lucy :-( I like the last pic with Joey entertaining himself. That's what Ryu does when Tim plays video games and I'm on this discussion forum at night :-)

Poor lucy! But I do love the pictures of her all tucked in. Soooo cute.
