Tora brag

edited January 2011 in Kai Ken (甲斐犬)
I have to brag a little about my little girl. I am so proud of her after this weekend. Tora competed in an international dog show this weekend. She finished the weekend with 4 V1 ratings. This earned her a international champion title. She also competed in best rare breed in show at the end of today, unfortunately she was completely worn out. She showed her best, but you could tell she was worn out. The weird part was that they place the kai in the working group with the mastiffs, dobes, boxers and rotts. She stuck out like a sore thumb.

  • You go, Tora! Nice!!! Pics?
  • Jason was in charge of the camera. We just got home a little while ago so hopefully tomorrow I will be able to go through the pics and see if any turned out. The lighting was not great in the building so not sure if they turned out or not.
  • Right on Tora! Way to represent.
  • Congratulations! Can't wait to see pics! Forgive my ignorance, what class should a kai be placed in?
  • typically kai end up in the same group as Shiba's which would be either non-sporting or northern depending on where you are showing. She was placed in a group with dogs that are typically used for protection.
  • Congratulations Tora!!

Working group is an interesting place to stick her, I'd figure a Kai would be placed in sporting due to being a hunting dog. Maybe they thought "Mini-Akita" instead of "over-sized shiba" and stuck her with the group the Akita is in.
  • Congratulations again! We need pics really. Ha ha

@Calia Kais, like Shibas, are usually non-sporting because they have a several abilities. They are not strictly hunting dogs so in times like these the sporting groups are usually combined.
  • Congrats to Tora. That's quite an accomplishment! :-)
  • Way to go, Tora! :) (And Stacey of course!)
  • Congrats! IABCA is funny that way. They grouped my CO in the herding group with the Shiloh Shepherds, mini Aussies, and Border Collies because the German translation of the breed name for CO includes "shepherd", while we sadly looked on at the Working Group (Tibetan Mastiffs, Danes, Anatolians, etc) in the ring next us. The value is in the individual judging, and these are great, inexpensive shows to take a shy dog or a puppy to, aside from that, take it with a grain of salt :)
  • Awesome! Congrats to you and Miss Tora!
  • Congrats, that is awesome! Yeah we really need pics ;)
  • unfortunately none of the pics turned out. The lighting was terrible.
  • We did a 2 day UKC show this weekend. There were 2 shows each day for a total of 4 shows. Tora did very well this weekend. She finished with 4 best of breeds, 2 group 2's, a group 3, and a group 4. On Sunday Kuma won breed, a group 1 and took a Reserve Best In Show. The judge kept going on and on about how Kuma was built, and his structure. She mentioned she had never before judge a shiba carrying the muscle and conditioning Kuma carries. She also was amazed by Tora's muscling as well. I will have Kuma's picture when I get it from the photographer. Unfortunately, we had left our camera at home.
