I'm not sure if this is a trait with all brindles but her left side is a more straight pattern. her right side is more random. This photo was taken before her bath and brushing so her fur looks a little gross, but you get the idea.

  • What a lovely girl! Enjoyed the swimming video. Hope the separation anxiety eventually gets resolved.
  • Eevee is terrific!
and Brindles are like fingerprints, so symmetry isnt necessarily there, esp with varying amounts of black density over red. I notice a few common patterns- nested Vs down the back, an inward stripe rotation around the front legs, spectacles and parentheses between/above the eyes- but they are only "more or less" and not exact patterns. Its fun to look at their coats and find certain shapes. I like to think my brindles are 'Picasso Dogs' (which I vastly prefer to one stranger's comment "those Blender Dogs")- asymmetrical, lively, somewhat torqued (Sage is very twisted) in appearance. Brindle is Beautiful! :)
  • She looks so happy now :).
  • So we went for a jog in the woods and decided to search for the man-made waterfall. We jogged for 20 minutes and finally found the falls. The water was warm and the trees provided plenty of shade. Eevee saw the water and jumped right in.

We had a ton of fun and took a few great photos of Eevee!

    brindle is best!

  • Eevee is so pretty! Not to mention where yall were. These photos make me excited for fall/winter to come so I can go hiking with Toki. I'm a little jealous that it must be cool enough where you and eevee are to go on trails ;)
  • Eevee's gorgeous! Awesome photos too, she looks right at home in the most recent ones. Too bad there aren't any places local that are like that in S. FL, or maybe I just haven't looked hard enough lol. How are you and her liking that pack, and which is it?
  • Lookin' good!
  • Thanks for all your comments!

@cezieg, if you ever come up to North Florida, let me know. I know there are a few dog beaches in St. Petersberg and Apollo Beach. We also have Beer Can Island where we can only get there by boat. It's a really small island in Tampa Bay. A lot of people bring their dogs there.

The harness is a 2012 Ruffwear Palisades.. I do not like the olive green color, but that's what it came with. I had her pack detached. The leash is a Ruffwear Roamer.

Chrys, I love her brindle! I was a little afraid when I lost her in the bushes. She blends in so well! I was lucky her recall was exceptionally good that day.
  • Those are great pics! And I love the brindle talk, too, and it made me look at Leo's brindle more closely!
  • Maybe put a orange or bright color bandana on her? Saya my black and tan shiba blends in good in the thick woods her bright green and blue bandana works good. I also have orange ones for hunting time..
  • Thank you so much for sharing. I love the she swims and her brindle. She looks like a very happy pup!

I was looking through the Laika forums and came across "treeing." I had to look this up because I didn't know what "treeing" meant. Fortunately for me, Eevee gave me a demonstration with a squirrel.

  • Haha she's adorable. It'd be really cool to meet you guys one of these days! Ren does that all the time when she sees a squirrel or an interesting bird. She has low attention span on normal walks and will only "tree" them for about a minute, if we're hiking though she'll tree a squirrel then walk away and circle the tree from a moderate distance, maybe to see if it will hop down.

So, we have a new puppy that we found and adopted.. Not sure of the name yet but We're sticking with Ezio for now.

So, before we gave Ezio to the animal shelter, he played really rough with Eevee, which Eevee tolerates. When I re-introduced him to each other, Ezio began playing at the same level of intensity as before. He seems to enjoy pulling around her neck area that resembles a game of tug. Eevee has corrected him when he tugs on her ears, but doesn't seem to mind he neck being pulled. There are no signs of blood so I don't think he's biting that hard, she would have corrected him if that happened. Is this play normal?

This video was taken last week before I officially adopted him.

The tugging can be seen on the 2:00 mark.
  • Eevee is very pretty!
  • Thanks, Brad!
  • That looks like perfectly good playing to me, Ezio is throwing butt bumps indicating that it is just fun and nothing more. Ren and my sister's dog will wrestle daily for an hour at a time. It's always a back and forth of Keanu or Ren "winning" by getting a solid neck/scruff grab and then they get to lead loser around by the scruff for a few seconds, until the loser wiggles lose and it starts all over again.

Ezio and Eevee look like they're getting along really well, I'm happy for your guys! Eevee is beautiful btw, I think that's the first video I've seen of her. Great bushy tail on her!

Thanks, we need to arrange a meeting sometime, Charles.

Here's a video of Ninja, the puppy, and Eevee in our backyard. I like the 1:14 mark where he's trying to get down an orange. ^.^

  • Cute pup! Saya has treed a couple juvenile raccoons before once it was one raccoon next day two.. Mom stayed far away and climbed up a tree in the woods..

She just looked up and made whining noises and eventually started to mess with the leaves and lay down looking up.

    Photobucket

Wish there was a rock or pear to show size of it, but the raccoon was young one I could tell who was the mom as she was bigger and she seemed more wise and ran to the woods and up a tree right away. The young ones were closer to the pear tree so they ran up that..
    Photobucket

I think with laika they only look up and bark at the animal not sure if they put their front paws on the tree or not. I know certain breeds are supposed to do it.

Cool your dog treed a squirrel Saya has chased them, but trees are so close they hop from tree to tree.

Some stray cat wants to get treed as he/she wanders in my yard it's annoying.

There is plenty signs dogs live in the yard yet they keep going in it.. Saya fur all over, dog pee.. and when they're out back their jingle bells.. Yet they slink by the pond thinking they're invisible.

Hope see more pictures of your dogs and your new puppy. :)
  • Ooohhh! Eevee is pretty!!! You pup is cute too!
  • Thanks, all!. Saya is beautiful!

It's really annoying at the dog parks. There are so many dogs around and small ponds to swim in, but all she wants to do is hunt for squirrels. Her recall and training becomes inneffective when she gets in the zone.

Here is a video about the behavior that I'm unsure of. it starts around the 0.54 mark. The puppy just goes to Eevee and begins a game of tug with her neck.

  • That looks normal for puppy play. When we adopted our beagle mix at 13 weeks old, he would pull on our shiba's necks like that. They allowed him to do it until he was about 6 months old, then they started correcting him. Eevee is very patient with puppy!
