Well since tha Kai is a Japanese native breed I'm guessing a Japanese name, but not one that is a mouthful and hard to pronounce. I've never been good at naming pets so I just usually name them generic names. i want something unique and since its a female maybe something girly.
Sometimes it just comes to you. I had a few names in mind but none suited when I got him. I was watching Pokemon and a wild Eevee appeared so I named her after it.
Eevee is also Natalie Portman's character in v for vendetta, which I loved.
You also shouldnt take "Abra". That one's mine for my next female puppy! Unless I decide against my boyfriend's wishes and go with "Aela".
There are already a lot of these names: Kuma, Kujo, Sushi, ect... so if you want something unique, you will have to stay away from generic, as good as those names are
@MapleTwinkie Those are not Japanese names... in the sense that people don't name their children that. They're more like band names or name of attacks in games/anime. lol
@AndrewT1993 I would keep it simple. 2-3 syllables or if you choose to go longer, make sure you can shorten it.
Our pup's akc name includes murasaki (a flower and a color, both purple - we chose it because her name is Violet and we liked the literary reference, and Violet itself was also a literary reference). I know a Hana-bi (fireworks) shortened to hana.
Hotaru (Firefly - I know Hotarubi was mentioned above). Ayame (iris) Sumire (violet) Fuji (wisteria) Yuki (snow) Hoshi (star)
@MapleTwinkie Yeah, @Hinata23 is right in this case. I pulled the words from anime attacks. I actually think they would make perfectly fine names to give a pet.

The Japanese dog names is great place to look through.
Good luck it can be hard finding names maybe compile a list of names you like and see what fits the pup's personality when you get her.
