There should be no training needed for a Kai Ken to bay or tree game. However, since he is older, and was probably not reinforced for the behavior, you may need to "build" his interest (drive) by allowing him to chase critters and then reinforcing him. For boar, I would try to find a hunter with a penned wild boar to test his response on it before you take him out "in the wild" for a real hunt. @shishiinu would be a great contact for details on how to prepare him for hog hunting.
I'd love to get him but I have a baby due in March and waiting till the end of the year for a new pup is the plan. Plus I'd really like to condition the pup the way I did the first time as far as the bond and recall and its easier for a pup to not kill my cat.
She has only been rude when resource guarding my dads lap from the cat. Mei went to move with my parents when she was 19 mos old. She pretty much came feral.
Don (Tone No Donryu) is here.
"He weighs about 40 pounds, is black brindled, neutered, and house and leash trained. He is quiet in the house and out.....you don't have livestock, right? His prey drive is very high, and I fear he would kill my goats and chickens, He barks at them when ever he can see them, but not at other dogs.
Other than his prey drive, he is a lovely dog. I would keep him, but he would be happier without being taunted by goats......
He has no experience with cats, so I think he would be happier without cats or small rodents in his home.
What else would you like to know? I would love for him to find a wonderful, happy, friendly home. He gets along fine with puppies, and female dogs. He doesn't like my male shiba, but that could just be the shiba.
Don is a very confident dog, who would go on a leash and walk by other males, but does not like them in his face. He walks beautifully on a leash, never pulls. He loves people, when people come to visit, he comes in, wants to be petted, not wary or skittish at all. He is a NIPPO champion, has been across country in a car, no problems.
The long walks would be just fine for Don, as he is quiet in the house, but loves to go walk and read the "newspaper" as he goes. Here, he has land to run on, and would be great if he could burn some energy on a walk.
He has no allergies, but may have a mild case of megaesophagus, as he produced a puppy with it. If he has it, he has no effects from it, never is sick, no pneumonia or regurge, which are the major symptoms of the issue. He has only been to the vet for neutering, and the vet feels he doesn't have it."
Also Cindy is located in Michigan for anyone who is possibly interested in roadtripping out to meet Don
I will post a few pictures this weekend.
I'm so glad Don got a home he sounds like nice kai ken from what I read.
