Creepy weird house down the block

edited December 2008 in General
I took Sasuke for a jog this morning and right before we walked to a house down the road, he stopped jogging and walking and did not want to walk on the property's side walk. I also noticed this when I walk Ninja... There is something about that house that makes my two dogs not want to walk past it. I also noticed they both stop at the same spot, which is the middle of the previous house's driveway. Weird... O.o

They are willing to walk across the street and go around the property, just not walk on the property's side walk. Does anyone have any experience on this?

LOL! Is it a spooky old house with broken shutters painted in dark colours with strange noises coming from the attic?

If not, then maybe there is just something about the house that they do not like. Or something about the people who live there. Dogs have a pretty good sense of things that are not right. So if they are not comfortable with it, then I would probably not be either.

Is that the new name? Sasuke? CUTE!

There is a smell going down to the beach that Miso and Sake don't like and they always want to cross the street when they get to the house with the smell. Maybe they are both picking up something unpleasant.

I have been calling him Sasuke and he is starting to respond to it. Although all the women in my house really loves Miso, it's the males who like Sasuke. :)

Plus I don't want two Misos on the forum :)

Maybe they can smell a dead body buried under the pavement..Ohhh. We have some cadaver dogs on this forum.

    Dogs know things!

I thought it was a dead dog buried or something. It is strange... he never walked there before but they both refused to walk. It's a pain when I'm on my bike :(

Do y'all believe in the dog's ability to predict a heart attack before it happens?

    Absolutely!

I know of seizure alert dogs and a diabetic alert dogs, but so far no heart attack alert dogs although I am sure they are capable. That would be cool to have in hospitals.

I read in an article that there is a cat that lives in a retiremet home. When someone is about to die, the cat would visit their room 10-15 minutes before they pass. At the time, I think I read the cat did this 9 times already.
I would be so afraid if the cat visited me one night.

Is there a sewer nearby? Jack wouldn't walk near a sewer. It just sounded different, and I suppose he didn't think a hallow sound should come from beneath his feet.

Horses have been known to spook over certain colors.

Yes, some dogs can predict certain health issues. I've seen dogs on TV predict cancer, low blood sugar, seizures. Ronan has successfully predicted several ear and anal gland infections with Tasha, an infected cut (beneath clothing), a couple sinus infections (but we already were pretty sure that's what it was without his insistent whining and sniffing), and a skin cancer spot on hubby's face. He has NOT been able to predicts colds, flus, a drop or raise in blood pressure, colitis attacks, migraines, or hives before they happened.

Okay, here's my creep factor (hey, I write this stuff!):

Have you ever noticed that the neighbor's peekinese that gets loose avoids that house too? Now, we all know that dog doesn't really get loose, it's just than the Perkins are too lazy to walk the scraggly thing and too cheap to put up a fence. Anyway, come to think of it, even the two outside cats from the Lewis house never go there. I just thought it was because there weren't a lot of birds for them to hunt like over at Joe's house three doors down and across the street. He's got all those bird baths, fancy bird houses, and loads of specialized feeders. He said some of those feeders are supposed to keep the tree rats out, but I've never seen it stop them. I bet he goes through twenty bucks a month in extra feed because of the squirrels. You know, now that you mention it, I've never seen a bird's nest in any of the trees when I take my evening walks past that house when all the leaves drop in fall. Last week, a rabbit stopped in the yard next door, ears and nose twitching before bounding off in the opposite direction like something was chasing it. I looked around for that pekinese, but remembered it was too fat and too blind to run much, and the tabby cats were no where to be found either. Thought maybe it'd been grazing on clover or something and I'd spooked it.

I stopped and talked to Joe about the Marsh house and the lack of animals willing to venture into the yard just last night. He thought I was nuts at first. Joe kinda looks at everyone like they're a little nuts, but then he just sat on his front porch, staring at the house and rubbing his chin.

"Huh," he says to me, "Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever seen a crow over there much less a cardinal or jay. Well, ain't that odd? Now why you suppose that is? Do ya think the Marsh's put down some sorta repellant?"

I shrugged. What could I say? I don't know about you, but I've never come across a repellent that worked that well. At least nothing you can buy, anyway.

I like - do you write under your name or a nom de plume?

There is a clearing where I walk my girls where they go nuts every time. They are perfectly fine before the clearing, and once we pass it, but within the clearing they go nuts, trying to pull their leashes and run. We are convinced someone was buried there.

We used to live near a park where they did the same thing. And that park was famous for being haunted. I like to think that is it.

LJ - I write under my real name. blog here: MichelleMuto.blogspot.com. Can't say I've posted anything interesting yet, but everyone is welcome to drop by and post about reading or writing. I come here for my dog posting fix.

Not published - yet, but I do have two NY agents reviewing my latest novel. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Let me know when it's published, I'll make sure I pick up a copy.

BTW - what genre? **EDIT - Duh, just read the blog, now I'm very interested**

I read 3-4 books a week, so I tend to read all types of books, though my focus tends to go toward fiction, usually legal thrillers, criminalistics, serial killer, horror, detective, mystery, paranormal, wiccan, vampiric, and lycan. I'm always on the lookout for a good author to add to my list. I have a group of friends that we each buy certain authors and share the books. Hardbacks get pretty expensive after a while. There are some authors that I'll only buy in paperback because I've had some good books with them and some bad.

Joe, I remember seeing the story about the cat on the local news! Creepy :)

Do diabetic alert dogs actually exist? Or are they just some sort of gimmick?

I'd be rather curious if anyone has any more info on this. Diabetes runs in my family [ my Dad is Type 1, & my mother & grandad are type 2 ] so it'd definitely something that's been interesting me.~

That's a good idea, Michelle. I have a 16ish year old Yorkie who does not walk around much... I should test the property with her.

Sasuke is afraid of manhole cover things, we just found that out on our walk this morning. We had to cross the street and he did not want to step on the manhole cover thing. Ninja is fine with them... I think.
