Sorry for your loss.

Interesting. My female Yume is the same as your Seta and is very cautious of strangers and will bite (or at least growl and a big snap) if she doesn't want to be touched. She is quiet, a great guard dog and is always on the hunt for something. Snake…

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems this might not work out after all, but we are going to do a few sessions with the trainer just to see what happens. Yume was great with dogs until she was about 1. The thing is at around the same time there was …

We are thinking Akita.

Thanks for the comments. Having to keep the dogs separate would definitely not be ideal. We are thinking of getting a trainer the specializes in reactive dogs to give us some tips and see how Yume will react to an other dog in the house. If we utter…

We would get in on this if it isn't too late. https://goo.gl/photos/61qcR3r4GXU8sQFTA

WhoBitMe Meitou sounds a lot like Yume. She can be in crowds, but as you say if someone were to invade her space there might be trouble. Yume won't go out of her way to pick a fight with a dog, but she is always the instigator when it happens and n…

OK, getting there with the pictures. These ones are pretty recent. (Image) (Image)

Hey guys, I said even with her troubles we really enjoy having her. We take her pretty much everywhere with us and she loves getting into the woods or mountains and even loves riding in the canoe. Her two big downfalls are her prey drive and her …

Where did the HTML code move to on Flickr??

Yume used to make her "monkey noises" when she was a pup, but is a pretty quiet dog now that rarely barks. The only time she screams like in your video is when she gets close enough to smell a Bighorn sheep or sometimes an elk/moose when s…

Dogs on the train would be a definite no go in Kanagawa as far as I know. You can always skirt the rules, but not by too much or too often. Also, if you become a resident in Japan you are supposed to change your license in quite short order (3 month…

My vet was OK with us not spaying Yume when he heard she was a rarer breed. What really surprised me was when we got her microchipped their was an option for Ainu-inu as a breed!

@mapletwinkie Yume didn't really seem to "blow her coat" she just seemed to shed ALL summer long. I think her fur is growing back now, she is going to need it with the weather here. All is well here right now, still adjusting to Calgary, b…

@thewalrus Yeah, she is a little brat, but we get along. She now is a lot calmer sometimes and also finally enjoys being pet, when she is tired anyway. I think we just need to work on recall (doesn't everyone?) and also how she deals with strangers…

Wow, how did I miss this?? Yet another Hokkaido in North America. How is his nose now? I have never heard of a dog's nose changing color.

We buy stuffed cow hooves at Petsmart and one of those will keep Yume busy for at least an hour and believe me that is quite the achievement.
-
Love it! Haven't done a kayak but Yume loves the canoe. (Image)

Yes, I can't complain about the scenery near here, it's the reason we made the move. @whobiteme Yes, Yume is still very mouthy and still likes to bite. She doesn't bite aggressively it is more that she just likes to put her mouth around your wrist…

@calia We won't spay her right away, but it would be very difficult to breed her at the moment. I figure by the time she is old enough we will both be working and think it wod be very hard to find the time to take of the pups ect.. I am not ruling …

I am not thinking of spaying Yume to change her temperament, but if we aren't going to breed her maybe it would be better to do it. The vet sad it can rely reduce the possibility of some cancers ect..

Yume definitely gets a lot of looks in Canada, but we haven't decided on whether we will spay her or not as of yet. Hokkaido's have a very high prey drive, but in Canada it is illegal to hunt deer or bear with a dog and even if it were I am not sure…

If you can find another dog who likes to swim Meitou will probably follow them out into the water. Yume learned from a golden retriever.

As requested. These are pretty recent, I was surprised how much she likes water and the canoe. (Image) (Image)

No, but she is still trying!! We took her to Montana this past weekend and she finally went swimming. What a spoiled dog, 5-months old and she has already been in 3 countries and learned to swim in a beautiful lake in the mountains of Montana.

I will have to weigh Yume, she is pretty much the same age as Maru and Meitou

Yume (Hokkaido) wears a nylon collar with an ID tag and we put her in a harness (2nd type poetic dragon shows) when we want to go for longer walks or when we know we will see wildlife, which is pretty much all the time. It really works well and she …

@whobitme Is Meitou a digger? Yume loves to dig holes.
