Oh wow - gorgeous!

Ah memories... I remember how fast they grow! Taz is a very messy drinker too, laps up the water like crazy when he drinks and leaves water everywhere after. And it is pretty neat to learn what the different grunts, growls, and barks mean. Enjoy y…

Hi zandrame, I was thinking about your post in this thread and wondering how Kouda was doing. How is his behavior lately? Did you have a chance to discuss again with your vet a possible trial of Soloxine or have you decided to wait a bit and retest …

@ ayk - Yes, you do have valid points and I certainly can understand the city's role in balancing public safety vs. individual privilege to own/keep a potentially dangerous dog. We had the chance to explain what measures we had taken & other for…

@ Losech - thanks for your feedback. It's good to know that your dogs haven't had any issues with the chips whatsoever. You're right, it's too bad we don't have a choice in this matter but I do also see the potential benefit of Microchipping so jus…

She's a beauty! Love the pic of both dogs standing side by side : )

@shibamistress, I'm glad you posted this info. ARWNY is run by some really great people. They were one of the rescue orgs. I contacted for advice about our situation with Taz. They were very helpful and caring during a critical time for us. I read …

Aww, just look at that face. You must be so excited! Great name too.

Shelby looks so sweet, and my fave picture is the one of Mya enjoying the wind in the car, eyes squinting. I recognize that look because Taz loves doing that too. Love how Rosie can fit anywhere : ) What a great group of ladies you have there!

We're currently using Tri-Heart Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) for heartworm preventative. But I've read that there can be issues with ivermectin for Akitas. I thought I saw something related in a post on this forum when I was browsing once, but can't …

This is what Dr. Dodds says: Any spinosad product is contraindicated in dogs with a history of seizures (Trifexis, Comfortis). Also, avoid product with afoxolaner as well (Nexgard). Hope this helps to clarify.

omgtain, that's a good question. I'm going to ask Hemopet for further information why they advised against them. It may be because I mentioned past history of seizures for Taz and they also noted to avoid rosemary or oregano in food & treats sin…

Interestingly, the thyroid report I received from Dr. Dodds (Hemopet) also cautioned against using Trifexis as well as Comfortis.

Here's the section I was referring to in the article: Don’t let recent “normal” tests keep you from suspecting thyroid issues, should your dog’s behavior change suddenly. Hannibal had a full blood panel in July, which included T4, which came in at …

zandrame, I certainly understand your predicament. There are many symptoms that relate to the hypothyroidism in your case, and just only over a week ago I really started to question whether we could really keep Taz - given how his behavior was worse…

He is stunning! Congratulations
