So recently we've noticed that Portia has become quite vocal in play.  I thought Ninja had funny noises, but it seems like she is mimicking him.  She does these weird howlish noises mixed in with growls.  Its so funny and weird.  Im starting to think maybe she thinks she is a Shiba?  I have never heard these types of noises from her until probably about a month ago.  Has anyone else who has a Shiba and another breed dog noticed this???

I have a little video clip of it also, youtube is taking FOREVER to upload...you might get a better idea when you hear it though, its so funny!

well bassets have a lower, louder "barooo" to their vocalization.. but our basset had a dual personality: around the shibas he would yawn a lot to make higher pitched noises, but near our neighbor's basset he'd "barooo" like nobody's business!

That is pretty common for dogs to mimic the play style of another dog. When Ahi plays with Maui she is super loud and high pitched, when she plays with Loa or Kona she just growls, but when she plays with Hilo she is silent. It's very interesting.

She's a sassy girl! Very cute Romi. I love how she opens her mouth like she wants to bark but when you "ssshhhh" her she just makes that cute noise! Did I notice Ninja licking the couch? Why do Shibas lick everything!?!?!

Those noises are really funny... kinda like a mix between a wookie and the predator.
