Did anyone else see Breed All About It today on Animal Planet? They did the show on the Akita. I wasn't totally psyched about they portrayal. They showed only American Akita and didn't even mention the distinction between Japanese and American. They talked about Hachiko, but used an American Akita for the recreation. They emphasized the aggressive nature of the breed (as written in the AKC standard) as well as its tendency toward hyper-thyroidism and hip displasia. Grrrr.

Probably they didn't even know better than that. It's easier to go to the obvious places, and if there isn't the slightest mention to anything else, they take it for granted. That's the way media works, and its kind of sad. Even worse is the fact that they get away with it, and there are more "enlightened" people about dogs because of them.
