# Home made diets for dogs

I've been doing some pretty intense research in the last week or so about grain free homemade dog diets. I actually added organic oats to Tsuki's chicken/kidney/veggie dinner last night and she did fine with them, but I'm still aiming for grain free. Does anyone have + or - about Dr Pitcairn's Book…

Does anyone have + or - about Dr Pitcairn's Book of Natural Health for Dogs and Cats? or Andi Brown's The Whole Pet Diet? "Home Prepared Diets for Dog and Cats" by Strombeck is good too. I like Pitcairn's book better though, but Strombeck's is very scientifically based and explains why he recommends certain diets for certain diseases and how the diseases effect the body.

thanks kelly! I think I will look into Strombeck's book, I'm finding as I make my way through Pitcairn's book, he has great info, but it seems not a lot of it is referenced, just fact, you know?

Yeah I know what you mean Jen. There is a boarded doctor of internal medicine at the clinic I work at that uses Strombeck's book when she has owners who want to home cook for their pets if they have IBD or kidney issues who are opposed to feeding prescription kibble diets.
