Chihuahua

Dalmatian (never meant one who didn't have personality problems)

Shih Tzu

Poodle

Cocker Spaniel

Dalmations were really, really over bred (poorly), I think in the 80's and it is still hurting the breed to this day.  I've met a few nice ones, but I wouldn't want one either, they wouldn't make my NEVER top 5 though.  I've also met some Chihuahua's that were awesome.  I think working at the shelter allows you to run into a bunch of dogs you think you don't like, but then you end up loving them (or at least that one).

My list (and not because I don't think they can be good dogs, just that they don't fit my style).

Cocker Spaniel

Poodle

English Bulldog

Labrador Retriever (not a purebred anyhow, I'd probably take in a mutt version)

Bassett Hound

Labrador or golden retreiver

Dalmation

cocker spaniel

poodle

any combination of shih tzu / pekinese / bichon / maltese

I grew up with a fox terrier, most feisty dog i've ever had prior to the shibas! she was actually quite devoted to her family (my family). But some dogs are just schizo from over breeding and poor quality. Other dogs seem like they were born labodomized (see list above).

Boxer

Cocker Spaniel

Dalmation

Retriever

Lab

Jessica - why a boxer?

and is it true that cocker spaniels have a tendency to be out of the blue insane and aggressive?

## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-04-24T17:32:31.000Z
Cocker Spaniels have a history of poor breeding too.  They bite more people than any other dog breed, and yeah, crazy dogs.  They pee on everything too (at least the ones I know).

I used to not like Boxers much, then I met Humphrey at the shelter.  He was the sweetest, he had an offset jaw so his tongue always hung out.  He also had legs that bent inwards, so when he jumped it was all crooked, but he was always so happy and excited and jumped like crazy.  I loved that guy.

Cockers suck.

As far as Boxers go, they are the first to go completely nuts at the shelter where I volunteer . There are always exceptions to the rule. I have met a few nice boxers, and a few nice Cockers. But I would never have either in my home.

Rules of the universe now dictate that I will likely own both by the time I hit "add your comments"

## _dlroberts · 2008-04-24T17:47:47.000Z
hahaha. Yeah Jess. Haven't you learned that saying things like that on this forum get you into all kinds of trouble? ;-)

My top (or bottom) five:

Chinese crested

Greater Swiss Mountain dog (I have no interest in a dog that takes 18 months or more to house train)

Chihuahua

Jack Russell

Italian Greyhound (they make me anxious)

So that's not necessarily my bottom five, but it is a selection of five breeds from my longer list of breeds I will never own.

Bergamasco (coat)

Afghan Hound (too much hair)

Dogue De Bordeaux (no slobbering)

SharPei (my ex had 2, I hated them, they stink!)

Cocker (dumb)

and last but not least

Chihuahua (nervous yelpers)

## okiron · 2008-04-24T20:19:40.000Z
Any type of terrier

Poodle

Doberman (Only because I prefer them with docked ears and tails but do not want them to go through unnecessary disfiguration so I'm going to skip all that and just not own the dog. Love the breed though)

Yorkie

Any flat faced dogs like bulldogs and pugs

Most balls of fluff

I love terriers, always have.  My yorkie/westie mix was the light of my life for 9 years, until he died such a young age,  His ashes sit in my china cabinet.  I never thought I could love another dog, but The Jake Man proved me wrong.  I hope Bandit would be happy for me.

Unlike Shibas, Bandit accepted other dogs, but not other people.  He was so cute everyone wanted to pet him and I would have to say 'he's not friendly'.  Even my neighbor who lived next to us for 5 years, he never accepted.

He was too funny in the fact that he did what he had to do.  I went away on vacation and asked the neighbors to keep him.  He can stay here, or go to your house, whatever is most comfortable.  He lived with them for a week, slept in their bed.  When I returned home, he would have nothing to do with them.

Scarlet -

Thats so sad =( But Bandit is in a better place now and now you have Jake! Do you plan on getting Jake a sibbing ever??

## Romi (admin) · 2008-04-24T22:33:09.000Z
Awww JESS!!!  I am going to take a road trip to you and bring Portia with me so she can restore your faith in Boxers!  Actually I was a bit nervous getting a boxer, since they are very energetic and boisterous and like to jump a lot!  But i have no regrets in Portia, she's the best cuddle bug ever!  She is always right there waiting to cuddle.  She really is just a lover.  She is awesome with my little 2 year old nephew too.  I think as long as you train them not to do things you don't like, they're great chill dogs.

Anyways, my 5...

Chihuahua

Old English Sheepdog

Chow Chow

Great Dane

Mini Pinscher

## JessicaRabbit (admin) · 2008-04-24T22:41:26.000Z
I will absolutely admit I have had better experiences with female boxers. And I am sure I would love Portia. Like I said there are always exceptions.

I never thought I would like Chihuahuas until I started to dog sit for a friend who had 5 of them and they melted my heart. Not a yapper in the bunch.

This is me with 2 of them (hundred years ago)

Thanks Jmaxwell, but I didn't mean to bring a tear. (it's been 4 years! but I will always love and miss Bandit who literally died in my arms from inborn heart disease)  The Jake Man is pretty territorial and even though the Shiba is like potato chips and I want more than just one, he hasn't been quite accepting.  He does love most females but they have to be very pretty~  He has high expectations and demands quality over quantity  He fell in love with Jazz from the moment he saw her -- an older woman....

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-04-24T23:30:59.000Z
Jazz likes the Jake Man, but has to be wooed a bit more before he'll win her heart totally.

## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-04-25T03:11:30.000Z
I had a poodle as a kid, I loved her.

## Romi (admin) · 2008-04-25T03:51:58.000Z
Yeah, my boss at my last job had a mini apricot poodle name Harley.  He was the sweetest most obedient dog.  He was awesome!

## okiron · 2008-04-25T05:02:23.000Z
Poodles are evil dogs and will kill me in my sleep.

## brandon_w (admin) · 2008-04-25T09:55:56.000Z
I can't help but be kind of baffled by all of the people who wont own a terrier but have a Shiba.  I think young Shibas and young Terriers are really equal in a lot of areas such as bat shit craziness, too much energy, and general lack of caring to listen.

## okiron · 2008-04-25T10:47:15.000Z
Lol I just don't like how they look. Has nothing to do with personality for me.

## ljowen123 (moderator) · 2008-04-25T11:00:41.000Z
It's funny how many dogs all of us have in common on not wanting to own.  I know several people with terriers- I think they are cute, just not a match for me.

Brandon - I agree with you on the overbreeding of dalmations - I've just had some very bad experiences with some.  I know that shouldn't affect when thinking about the breed, but it does.  Cocker Spaniel's have also been overbred.  My cousin had one that was supersweet (for the most part), but again too many stories, too many problems.

## scarlet · 2008-04-25T11:06:12.000Z
Brandon, shibas are much like terriers in their demeanor, strong-willed, fiesty, determined, but much more hyper.  They were great for me in my youger years
