I was home yesterday playing with my two wonderful fur babies when I noticed something about their eye color. According to the AKC website this is "standard" eye color: Eyes are somewhat triangular in shape, deep set, and upward slanting toward the outside base of the ear. Iris is dark brown. Eye rims are black Now, when I look at Miso he has very amber eyes. They have a golden hue that I think is so beautiful He does have his black pupil and a black rim around the amber, but I wouldn't call it brown, it's more of a reddish gold to me. Sake's eyes are BLACK. Jet black all the way. I can't see a color change at all between her pupils and her irises. I was just curious, how would you describe your dogs eye color? Im interested in other breeds as well. Thanks.

I think wolf-eyes, with the amber colour, are really pretty. I think the darker eye colour is preferred thou, in Shiba. Maybe that accentuates their "eye-liner" look. I don't know of a particular advantage of the darker eye in this breed.

Kuma's eyes are dark brown. In some photos, depending on the angle light is hitting him, they appear a to be lighter than they really are.

Nola's eyes are a bit lighter than the standard. This is a blurry picture, but the best one I have to show off the redness of her eyes:

Bella's eyes are dark brown, but there you can distinctly see the change from iris to pupil:

My shiba Sophie def has the super dark brown eyes... Zeus our bull terrier, at first I thought he had brown eyes but now that he has gotten a little older they look kind of like a pale green or hazel when the light hits them. I am not sure if that is the standard but we think he looks good. ;-)

Tsuki's are very dark brown, but I can tell the pupil from the iris: I don't know if you can tell, but I think Kitsu's are lighter than Tsuki's (Hanzo and Kobe [also red] were similar): Hachi's eyes were by far the darkest, but then even in certain light you should see the brown from the black:

Not the best picture of Ichi, but his are brown with black eyeliner:). Those dark eyebrows of his above his eyes have almost disappeared.
