When I stop the engine, he wakes up and start moving. I've seen a lot of dogs enjoying their car ride, sticking out their heads out of the window.... Is it all depends on each dog? Maybe I should avoid giving Takumi a ride as much as I can? ## baanton · 2008-05-31T16:06:21.000Z If Takumi is still a puppy, its likely the same theory as human babies. If you can't get them to sleep, put them in the car and go for a ride. Works like a charm! I'm sure when your doggie is older he will be extremely lively in the car! When we found Josephine (about 10 weeks old and lost) she slept almost the entire way from Az. to Mn. while we were driving. She is awake and moving sometimes now when in the car (about 16 months old), but often lays down and rests if we are on a long ride (even more than a mile or two, not to mention a road trip). I think its much easier to have a calm, sleepy dog in the car than one that jumps from window to window! But I do agree that it is safer and easier to have a calm and sleepy dog in a car. ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-05-31T18:00:40.000Z Well if you have to travel with the dog in the car, then he'll have to get used to it over time! Exposing it to him as a young dog positively will benefit you both, and make it more convenient, in the long run! It can be incredibly frustrating, and dangerous to both you and the dog if your distracted by trying to keep your dog out of trouble in the vehicle. ... which can lead to accidents ( which I almost did before ). ## Ryu · 2008-06-01T19:30:43.000Z I wouldn't worry about it - Ryu sleeps the entire time in the car and perks right up when we turn the corner onto the daycare street :-D ## sujewel · 2008-06-01T22:46:46.000Z Pretty much my reaction to cars as a passenger since I was 2. I find it amazing that a moving car can put me to sleep even on the shortest rides. And how do I know just when we're pulling in to wherever. I'd take a sleeping dog too. Now that I think about it, she wasn't one for looking around either. Probably had more to do with the truck being so big and her being so small she couldn't see. Just thinking in terms of size, she started to look around at 6 or 8 months. I remember because at about 4 months - and a good 40-50lbs, she moved from the center console to my lap - for her sleeping spot. Yay for her, not for me. I know. Kayden is the most nerve wrecking (for him and me) cat ever, he will flinch if you look towards him too fast but he is the calmest animal I have ever seen in a car.
