The last time we went to the pet store here in our little town we explained to the people there that we were looking for the best food for a Shiba Inu. Well that conversation led to us finding out that one of the ladies that works at the store HAS a shiba inu!!!! She wasnt working that day so we asked when she would be in. They told us she worked the next day and that she usually brings her dog in with her. PERFECT!!!! So the next day we got Honey ready and took her to the store. The initial meeting was kinda rough! hahhah The lady's dog (named Sheeba) was an 8 YEAR OLD female. She wasnt very happy to see another dog in HER store talking to HER mommy! hahah Honey was ready to play (like always) but after a growl or two from Sheeba she got the hint that wrestling was out of the question. We explained to Sheeba's mom that showing teeth and getting rough was the way of the Shiba! hahah (and I told her about all the stuff I've learned from this site.) After a few moments Sheeba seemed to at least tolerate Honey. So they aren't BFF's right now. But we hope to get the two together a few more times and see if they can be friends. I don't know if the age difference might cause problems or not? But we will see! One more thing. Sheeba was TINY!!!! I dont know if you can tell from the pics I'm posting.....but for an 8 year old Shiba, she was itsy bitsy! I think her mom said she only weighed 13 pounds. Which idk about that. Honey is only about 11-12 pounds, but next to Sheeba she looked GIANT. So here are some pics and video. In one of the videos you can see Honey kinda "pawing" at Sheeba. I think this was Honey's way of saying....."Aw, come on! Let's be friends and play!" And to top off our great trip to the pet store.....we decided on a costume for Honey this Halloween!!!! :) We decided to go with something kinda simple since this is her first time having any clothes on. I think she looks just perfect!!! lol

That sounds like it went pretty well. They both looked very relaxed in the videos. I suspect that 8 year old was just informing Honey that she needed to display some manners when introducing herself to other dogs.

That's cool! They looked a lot alike too! The 8 year old Shiba did a little more staring in the beginning that was needed - but Honey seemed to do fins with it. The costume is funny. :o) ----

Looks like all went well :D Love the costume, I was super bored the other day & looking at Doggy Costumes, I'd seen that one & thought..."Awesome!" :D I'm stoked I can see a Shiba modeling it ;)~

Meeting other Shibas is already a lot of fun. Honey looks really cute in that costume.

I'm glad Honey got to meet another shiba - looks like it was a good experience.

Well that is cool! Meeting another shiba is always exciting!!! We've only seen two in and around our little town, and we specifically set up a meeting with one of them!! Cute pics! Did Honey tolerate being dressed up? Our shibas will NOT go for that!

I think the meeting went really well. I think we were all kinda worried that one of the dogs would lash out and bite the other one.....but after reminding ourselves that Shiba's play rough....things were fine! And I really do think that Sheeba helped Honey to learn that when meeting a new dog you can't just run up to them and start jumping on them! lol Honey didn't seem to mind the costume very much. But if you look at the second picture shere she is looking off to the left, She's looking at Daddy, her expression kinda says........"WTH, you aren't gonna help me outta this?" or possibly "What are you laughing at?" idk? You be the judge! hahah

I know what you mean on outfits with Shibas...sometimes Jazz will look at me with this, "Seriously - this is what you think looks good on me"

HAHHAHHAHA Too cute!

I'm glad she met Sheeba - its super important to get her out and about and socialized with all sorts of people and especially all sorts of dogs. She will learn far more from her 'elders' about proper dog etiquette, greetings and language, etc, than we can hope teach them! She will be a model canine citizen when she learns all she can from all walks of life.

I love the costume, I cant believe she tolerated it so well!! Niko runs whenever she sees anything that could go on her!

## Leonberger (admin) · 2008-10-06T14:13:30.000Z
Poor Niko, with her fear of clothing, it's a lesson she learned the hard way :-P Honey will learn to run from clothes too.

I'm sure Honey will soon learn that when mom approaches her quietly, with her hands behind her back, and a special tiny smile on her face......that means .....RUN! hahaha

Rui-LMAO, LJ had fun chasing Jazz with costumes the other day, then she would do some shiba 500's. Niko runs from bandannas, antlers, bell collars, costumes, sweaters....nope, no bad experiences at all!! : P

Honey sure is getting big! And it looks like it all went well with Sheeba. And I am very impressed that she let you get anywhere near her with that costume! But she looks really cute. :)

I can't believe how fast Honey is growing! I mean the days of her being a ball of fluff have come and gone! (well, kinda. I think her winter coat is coming in....so idk) But when I saw Honey next to Sheeba I was like WOW!!! Honey's HUGE! lol And Honey never saw the costume coming! LOL It was a TOTAL sneak attack! But she did MUCH better than I thought she would with the little hat. I think she was more concerned with why mommy was laughing SO HARD to be worried about the costume.
