# Ahi hurt her foot yesterday She can be so interesting. She hurt her foot while outside in the yard by herself. She was in major pain, she couldn't even walk well. I called her to come in the house and she wouldn't move at all. She hurt her foot while outside in the yard by herself. She was in major pain, she couldn't even walk well. I called her to come in the house and she wouldn't move at all. I went over to help her and she FREAKED OUT and ran from me, then ran into the house and limped all around. She was clearly panicked and in lots of pain. Jen and I got her to calm a little an tried to look at her foot - she wasn't having it. I mean she was really vicious and ready to bite. So we got her to go to her crate, once in her crate she licked her foot continuously for several hours. Like licking it in a panic! She did this for about 2 hours. We were scrambling to figure out what to do. then we went and checked on her and she was totally fine. We could touch her foot any everything. Like nothing happened! She is fine today too. We have NO IDEA what the deal was, we can only assume she had something very small stuck in her foot and was able to pull it out by herself. Crazy! ---- ## TheWalrus · 2008-08-19T01:00:41.000Z My JRT did that once, and when I finally got ahold of her 20 minutes later and looked, she had a bee stinger embedded in her paw. Poor babe, glad to hear she's fine now Brad. :) Sometimes I think, & I believe this more so in the primitive breeds, nature sort of takes over & their natural instincts kick in; she healed it by herself.~ ## brada1878 (admin) · 2008-08-19T01:14:49.000Z An insect was my first thought too, I studied her paw from outside the crate, I was able to get pretty close without her freaking out, and I didn't see anything. She's a handful... I'm with you Osy, I think with primitive breed a lot of time they can take care of themselves - tho we still take them to the vet anyway. :o) I've heard stories of Russ-European Laika [a primitive hunting breed like the Shikoku] getting their abdomen ripped open, then stitched up and are ready to be back on the hunt in a week! ---- ## Sangmort (moderator) · 2008-08-19T01:18:31.000Z Awww, but you know you love Ahi's quirks after looking at that adorable face ;p The Laika are amazing. They are, I think, one of the dog breeds outside Japan that remind me most of the Nihon Ken.
