Kouda & I have 99% decided to keep "Larry", the 3-year old Sesame Shiba from SE Shiba Rescue!

He a real sweetheart, and velcro-y! He scrambles after me whenever I leave the room and does NOT understand no dogs on the couch and/or coffee table. Most of any problems we have now include the jitters (still jumps at unexpected sounds, like doors creaking/shutting when the heat cuts off, etc) and Kouda being over-protective of his toys/favorite corners and just being the spoiled brat he generally is. I feel that any kinks we still have can and will be sorted out over time. So yay!

Problem is, he has no name! I named him Ryota (for Ryota Fujimaki - love!) and decided to call him "Rio", but it's just not workin' for me somehow. I was calling him Rakka, for some reason. I know there's a dog here named that. Then this morning, I called him Tsuki, so maybe NihonKen is just getting into my brain!!!

Anyway, I thought 'Nuki was cute, cause he so much like a little raccoon bear :) But I like names that can sound both Japanese and American! Like Kouda (Coda) or Ryo (Rio).

I need suggestions! :)

Congrats on deciding to keep the little guy! As for names... I have no idea. I am terrible with names!

This site, animelab, helped me find a name for Tetsu. Congratulations on keeping the cutie... http://www.animelab.com/anime.manga/dictionary/

I recommend Googling "Japanese Dog names" which is what I did. I eventually came across a list and narrowed it down to 3 or 4. Then I tried them out over a short period to see which on Mika really looked like as well as how well she seemed to hear each name. In the end, I settled on Mika of course, but there's so many options it can make you go slightly crazy, haha. Nevertheless, you have a handsome boy and we look forward to hearing what you decide and seeing much more spam :) Good luck!

I also googled to get a name for Keiko... originally we were going to get a Shiba already named Biscuit, but things didn't work out with that. I think Kristin's next puppy should be Spicy Tuna Roll!!! :oD

Evan -LOL!!! Or Wasabi! Laura - I'm afraid I can't be of much help. My idea has already been suggested and that was googling. One of the things I did when I was searching for names ofr Kuma was finding a English to Japanese dictionary and try to translate whatever came to mind.

I like names that end with "ly" or something that sounds similar because i feel like its easy to call and its very crisp. therefore names i like are barry or wally.

I like Wally, too! I tried to name Kouda Wally, but my sister's bulldog puppy is Ollie and she didn't want Ollie running around with Wally. :)

Kaddy - Is Kristin the owner of Miso & Sake?? :)

## Kaddy · 2009-01-14T18:37:47.000Z
She sure is! :o)

## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-14T19:00:15.000Z
Yup thats me, a full house of japanese food dogs. Sake was almost Wasabi or Mochi. We call Miso "Soup" all the time...like "Hey soup, come give kisses!" My cat is Cookie... My house is full of food...and yet there is never anything to eat!

Can't help you with the American-ish sounding Japanese names. That's really subjective. Jesse

I used Dogster to look for names. I found a dog named Pika and liked the sound, but tried the name with other consonants and came up with Mika. With a little more research, I found that Mika was a Japanese name!
