# Dammit!!!

I just burned my hand an hour ago. I was pulling a salmon out of the oven, not paying so much attention and misjudged the distance I had to the side of the oven. Grrrrr. Other than ice (which is what I'm doing now), what can I do?

BTW. Typing hurts, but doesn't seem to look bad, just really stings…

Cold water and ice is best.  I would stay away from any heavy creams because they tend to hold in the heat and prolong the healing.  If you have a salve for burns you can try it but if it stays hot I would wash it off.  I have burned myself many of times, I am a BIT of a clutz.  Do NOT put petroleum based things on it.  See if you have some vitamin E, that would help soothe it.

Im sorry and I hope the pain goes away soon!  Enjoy your salmon!

Thanks. Rachel! I actually thought it was just one finger, but can now feel it's three. Fun!

I'm not usually so clumsy. I was just so hungry and wanted to eat. Silly me.

Ouch, that must've hurt Barbara!  My parents actually owned a Japanese TO-GO Restaurant for a few years and I would help out in the kitchen (trying to learn to cook lol).  There was a metal container type thing on top of the grill and for some reason I thought it wasn't hot and someone just put it there for a second so I grabbed it barehand.  OMG, IT WAS THE MOST PAINFUL!  I burned all 5 of my fingers plus 90% of my palm.   Thank god you don't scar on your inside of your hands!  Anyways, I ran cold water over it for 30 mins and stuck my hand in a bucket with cold water and tons of ice.  I probably kept doing that for a few hours.  After that I put neosporin on it and wrapped it.  And kept doing that.  It healed in about 2 weeks.  It was my left hand (im left handed ) so I couldn't do anything!  It was absolute hell.  I had to take bathes for those 2 weeks and it took me like 30 mins just to wash my hair.  So, I definately feel your pain!!!  I hope it gets well soon, burns are the absolute worst!

I was baking cookies for a friend. I couldn't find an oven mit so I used a dish rag. Part of it touched the pilot light and burst into flames. I had second and third degree burns all over my hand. My left, and I too am a lefty. I was rushed to the hospital. They put silvadine cream on it and changed the bandages regularly. After that I simply applied aloe.

No scars.

I would rather get stabbed than burned any day though. Burns SUCK!!!

Thanks, guys! Is it weird that I burned my left hand too...but I'm a righty.

My hand isn't as badly burned as yours sound like, but I did have a brush with a motorcycle and the tailpipe. I couldn't walk right for weeks! How could I have forgotten what the doctor did? I know I got a tetnus shot, but other than that. Blank. Not too much pain now. That was definitely a 3rd degree burn about the size of an oreo cookie. It's hardly noticeable now, you actually have to really stare to see it. But, I do have what looks like a pimple or mole or wort that formed as a result.

I did the water and ice thing for about 45 minutes...Til the pain subsided and wrapped it twice around with gauze.

I burn myself on a regular basis due to my wood stove and me apparently not understanding fire is hot... I have not really found anything that helps, tho I have noticed a burned area hurts REALLY bad when you get it close to heat - kinda interesting.

I once burned my knuckle down to the bone - singed all the skin off it. Hurt rather bad - it happened in like one second, I just barely grazed the side of our old wood stove.

I'm sorry you burned your hand tho - hope it feels better (and heals fast)!

" I burn myself on a regular basis due to my wood stove and me apparently not understanding fire is hot..."

This made me laugh out loud.

So its been two days now forget about the burn, how was the salmon?  I love fish, I only wish I was able to eat it more often in my house.

The Salmon was great! I made a tempura out of it and used a mayo/chipotle sauce. The next day, I made Chilean Sea Bass for Kurt, his 'YAY, you're home' dinner...with a soy/terriyaki sauce...yummy.

Dammit!!! Now I'm really hungry.

## sujewel · 2008-02-27T12:41:48.000Z
LMAO. Actually, I'm making myself hungry....I think I'll eat again...

Oh, my finger is fine now. A little blister and some redness (like sunburn) but that's it. I don't burn myself often, so I just got worried about nothing. Thanks, again for the help.

What I love about fish is that it's easy to cook. I really prefer cooking (and eating) more elaborate meals, so cooking is a 2-4 hour event. I have to learn how to cook quick stuff, but it bores me so. My grandmother was the same way. An amazing cook, but it was a 1/2 day process. She would pluck every little hair off of every piece of chicken, cut every piece of whatever perfectly to even, exact size. CRAZY.
