...you'll miss it.

It was late last night and raining like mad and we were at the dog training center. Ike had to go so he picks the muddiest, steepest slope to go on in the pouring sideways rain. My umbrella was pulling me one way and he was going the other in the pitch black and I didn't want to take my eye off the poo.

It is a known fact that in pouring rain, in the dark, if you blink from the time a poo hits the ground to when you pick it up, it will be lost forever and you will spend at least a half hour mucking around in terrible weather trying to find it.

lol, that's true! I take a flashlight with me now, just so I can watch Sasuke poo. I'm reading The Culture Clash and it talks about pooing/peeing on cue.. We'll see how that goes. Sasuke keeps walking around in circles before he finds his "sweet spot."

It doesn't work with my Shiba's but when I had my Husky we would go on walks and I would stop in a grassy place and say "Go Potty" and I would just stand there and she would circle around me but I wouldn't move until she went potty. She learned really quickly and then was able to go on command because she knew that was the only way we would get to walking again!

Well the book said to watch the puppy. Just before he is about to potty, throw in his cue word. I would then praise him after his is done. This would work extremely well because I have stood in place for about 10ish minutes and receive no response. On the walk home, he would potty on the sidewalk :(.

I guess that's the benefit of living in Manhattan. There are streetlights everywhere so the poo is never lost!

## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-08T14:04:25.000Z
Thread Jack! I will be in Manhattan this weekend...no puppies with me though, just family! Thread Jack Over!

I'll be in Manhattan this weekend too, though I don't know which day, either Sat or Sun, and I'll have Hanzo! [end hijack]

we constantly lose the doodies, but since I walk a similar route in the evening and in the morning, I usually end up passing and picking up with I lost in the dark the night before :)

I splurged on a $10 mini mag light that I now carry with me for finding poop in the dark. I got tired of feeling around the ground with a bag over my hand to find the poop. Works like a charm!

I went to Costco over the holiday break and got the Mag-lite two pack (1 uses 3D's and the other uses 2 AA's). I use that smaller mag-lite every night for the poop walk. I used to use a keychain LED light but it wasn't strong enough for me. It's a bit cumbersome to hold the mag-light in my mouth to aim it at the poop while I pick it up but I'm glad I don't have to search with the poop bag (or tread through the poop-filled grass to get to Ichi's toilet spot). It's annoying when my apartment complex has a lawn that has 4 dog bag dispensers at the 4 corners of the lawn (that are refilled morning) and dog owners *still* leave poop on the lawn! Grrr.... I've made it my civic duty to pick up my dog's poop and any other poop I see nearby to help clean up the lawn (which is supposed to be used as an outdoor volleyball court in the weekends). Jesse

We need to make a dog food supplement that makes poop glow in the dark.

## santuzza · 2009-01-08T22:03:58.000Z
Glowing poo should also be poo which would be crazy neon colors (so as not to dissappear in leaves and such) would also make it extremely interesting for those who simply don't pick up after their dogs. "Excuse me, sir, I believe that steaming turquoise load over there belongs to you and you Labrador. No, actually Tosca's is fuchsia... and quite a bit smaller." Roadside snow would look like something that could be put in MoMA!

After reading all this I'm so glad my hubby usually takes the late night doo-doo duty! Now I know what that flashlight is all about --- I just thought his eyesight was getting so poor he needed it to find his way back and forth to the "pooping fields" (we live by a school with a nice high grassy (or now snowy) berm to cutoff the athletic field noise --- Josephine's favorite spot, if you know what I mean)!

We have a small maglite on a carabiner that's attached to the poo-leash.

"We need to make a dog food supplement that makes poop glow in the dark."

Why don't we just feed them glow in the dark kittens? They are making those in Korea. http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/biz/2007/12/123_15447.html

(just kidding about the kittens...)

## Sangmort (moderator) · 2009-01-09T02:17:31.000Z
Ugh....cloning.... How about a flashlight for your head if your hands are too busy?~

## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-09T10:41:34.000Z
LOL Osy! I am buying one of those for my husband! That is FUNNY!

## sunyata · 2009-01-09T12:03:45.000Z
LOL! We have some head lamps. :) However, I never thought to use them for poop duty. So now if you are driving through VA, and happen to see a crazy lady with an LED headlamp and two Shibas who are pooping out neon pink poop....

## brada1878 (admin) · 2009-01-09T17:43:11.000Z
Oh, I have a headlamp - I use it for EVERYTHING! I LOVE it! I'm a dork tho.

## Leonberger (admin) · 2009-01-09T17:55:16.000Z
Do explain the everything, please...

## KFontaine04 · 2009-01-09T17:56:53.000Z
LOL Rui!

## brada1878 (admin) · 2009-01-09T20:31:11.000Z
LOL... get your mind out of the gutter guys. jeez. ;o) I use it for things like walking the dogs, getting things out of a dark closet, looking at things in the dogs mouths or when Ahi hurt her foot, working on my car, and installing hardware in my PC... you know, things where you want to use both hands. ----

## Sangmort (moderator) · 2009-01-10T01:14:24.000Z
Sorry. That was still kind of dirty Brad. "you know, things where you want to use both hands." ~

## JessicaRabbit (admin) · 2009-01-10T01:52:39.000Z

## Kaddy · 2009-01-10T04:19:32.000Z
I refrained from commenting because... well... y'all don't know that my mind is constantly in the gutter... ... yet ;o)

## santuzza · 2009-01-10T04:26:12.000Z
