If we switched Hachi successfully, we might switch the other two dogs to grain free, provided they all do well with it. Are there any authoritative sources or accounts about this food? I know its relatively new to the grain-free market. Our holistic mentor says she believes the ingredients and protein sources to be well founded and the other ingredients make this food a very good kibble. There is also a Wellness Core Ocean if the protein source causes any issues with the dogs (turkey, chicken vs. whitefish, salmon) ## kwyld · 2008-06-24T15:16:52.000Z I am currently feeding my dogs the Ocean formula and they just love it. They guarantee that formula is ethoxyquin free right on the bag too which is nice. Orijen has less carbs and less ash. Orijen has more Vitamine A and D, Wellness has more Vitamin E. Orijen has way more Thiamine, Riboflavin, Pantothenic acid, Niacin, Pyridoxine and folic Acid (B Vitamins). Wellness has more Potassium, Sodium, Chloride, and copper. ## scarlet · 2008-06-24T20:29:41.000Z They carry the Wellness Core at Petco, not in my area. I've just got the blue seafood from PetStuff with whole grains and veggies and Jake seems to do o.k with it. He actually likes it, although not food driven, he eats in the evening and eats it all when he's hungry and had a full day. Much lower vitamin A, D, and E amounts than the other two. Most other vitamin levels are lower than Orijen, but somewhat near the wellness. But it tends to be higher in minerals (not by much) than Orijen. ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-06-25T12:44:12.000Z Its actually really challenging to make sure I'm giving her an adequate formula of grain free food, but I'm trying to do a lot of preliminary research and I've narrowed it down to either Wellness Core or TOTW b/c Orijen isn't available anywhere near me :( Do you know any good articles about mineral usage and amounts for canine diets? ## tsukitsune (moderator) · 2008-06-25T23:01:20.000Z There is a local pet store near us that has agreed to order a medium sized (12 or 15lb) bag of Orijen Adult dog food for our Hachi, we're going to try to transition her first, and if she does well on it, we might be switching all of the shibas to grain free. If they don't respond to Orijen, we'll try Wellness Core and see what happens...
